Default Sorry to ask that again...

...but despite the extensive use of the seach function I couldn´t find the thread anymore containing the quadrants where passenger liners are frequently passing at the beginning of the war. Can somebody tell me where they are ?

I'll bite.

You want to look around the western approaches for the bigger ships.

Chances of seeing a liner are pretty small though.

It also depends greatly on the date of your patrol.

Read the wiki which links to the excellent community manual for good hunting ground info. (listed in the FAQ stickies at the top of this forum)

don't feel bad - the search function is basically useless. You're better to just read every single post.

I've been playing for a year and I've never seen a liner.

Got it. I stumbled across it a few weeks ago, and bookmarked it.

The stuff you're interested in starts about halfway down the first page. Hope this helps. I've only seen one liner, but it was in the middle of a convoy and I was completely out of torpedos.

EDIT: How much longer am I a bilge rat?

I use the Harbour Traffic mod, and last night I was getting bored. I was near Freetown so I sneaked in to see what was there. I sank two C2's, a T2 tanker, two coastal merchants, a small merchant and more importantly this;

It was a bit difficult to get into a shooting position but I managed. The only defence was two ASW trawlers that never came near me. So if you want a liner as a sitting duck then try the mod. I'm not sure if all ports will have liners, but some certainly do.

Thanks a lot guys. This helped.

@Khayman - thank you for the hints, but I don´t do harbour raids. I am a afraid of shallow waters

Sweet. I need to get that mod.

Raided Capetown on my last patrol (BdU had sent me to GF91, off the west coast of Africa), and found no harbor defenses except a destroyer and flower corvette several km off, but sunk a T2, a coastal merchant and a C2. I was able to literally surface next to the C2 and blast it with flak cannons (UFlak, no deck gun), without any other ship coming (I didn't want to use another torp, even though I eventually did).

What was down in GF91 that would interest the Kriegsmarine, anyway? All I can think of would be raw materials shipped from Africa and the West Indies, or possibly ships between Africa and South America.

West coast of Africa, grid ET. My patrol grid was in EJ so I didn't have to go far. I'm in the 2nd Flotilla as I enjoy the trips to the African Coast, the US and the Caribbean. You need a type IX of course.

You surfaced in an enemy harbour Did you not get fire from other merchants that were close by?
