Default engine sound problem

I just ran a mission and found that the engine sounds are subdued by static. I opened the sound file and played the diesel and elec motor sounds and they played OK, but in the game the sounds are barely audible and drowned out by static, similar the sound the wind makes in a microphone. It is NOT a wind sound effect however, Can anyone give my any ideas how to fix this? It is a very unpleasant sound and I do not know how to get rid of it. thanks! Joe S

I ran a few missions to try to trouble shoot this problem and noticed that the engine sounds of all ships have the same problem, even BBs. I dont know if that information helps in the diagnosis, but I wanted to mention it. So far, I have not been able to find a file in the sounds folder that makes the same sound. Joe S

I did a spyware and adware scan shortly before I noticed the sound problem, could that be the cause of my problem? If so , I could re-load the corrupted sound files if I knew which ones to work with. The diesel engine sound file playes just fine when I test it. What other sound files should I look for that would play when running on the surface? Thanks! Joe S
