Default Anyone running Grey Wolves with 512ram?

Anyone running GW with 512 RAM? How does it perform?? Anyone know why Subsim does not have it in their download section for SH3?

There are 3 sources for GW. realsim, rapidshare and bit torrent.
Take your pick! It's a huge set of files, so not a lot of sites can support that kind of traffic.

I can't really help with the 512MB question. I image it'll run OK with the 8km view and the stock floor mod activated.

Thanks Vodkajello.

I do not recommend running GW with 512 mb RAM. This will barely run stock SH3 unfortunately.

That being said... there is probably good news.

Grabbing another stick of 512mb RAM is probably one of the cheapest and easiest upgrades you can make to your PC.

Furthermore you can ask your computer builder/guru to "dual channel" it in BIOS... thereby making it faster in many ways than a single 1 gig stick.

Two 512 sticks are better than a single 1 gig stick in this respect.

Ok you guys out there are talking about RAM, well what kind of RAM? I'm still running the old PC133 RAM I wish I had the SD or w/e the new RAM is, what are ya'll using.

BTW I have 768mg of PC133 RAM.

It runs VERY VERY SLOW in harbors with 768, which of course is understandable, but once you get out to sea it works fine, looking forward to the patch that might help this

Well that depends on more than just your RAM too... your processor, motherboard, soundcard, videocard, and acceleration settings all play into it.

I have 2x 512mb 3200 DDR RAM sticks dual channelled in BIOS and still get low frames in harbor.

Hi finchOU,

I'm running GW with 512 MB ram (2x256 MB, dual channel DDR). I have an AMD XP 2000+ and a Hercules 3D Prophet 9800 Pro 128 MB. My mobo is an Abit NF7S-S, 3 SATA-I hd's and 1 IDE. Soundcard is on-board.

It takes some time for all textures to be loaded, so the first two minutes in dock are spent looking around in different views to get everything running smoothly . I'm currently in Kiel, and I use 32-64x TC to get out. Once out of that area, 1024x or (a bit further) 2048x are no problem. The rest of the game runs smoothly enough for me, although there's - sometimes - a 1 or 2 second delay when switching views. I do use 100 for particle effects.

I use the stock sea floor and the default 8 km mod. Hope this helps! Oh, stock SH3 runs just fine Kpt. Lehmann... at least in my experience . Also, having read these posts, I doubt it's worth upgrading to 1024 MB in my situation... DDR2 is out nowadays so the second I buy a new motherboard, it'll be useless .

Greets,
Firebird.

You can't even run stock with less than 1GB.

Wrong..... I have only 512 of Ram and a 128 Meg Graphics card. Game runs fine. I have SH3 commander and 1.4b installed. Would have liked to run GW but I know that is pushing things.
Only issue I have is with sound, intermittantly I get the loud static noise that drowns out everything. I shut off my speakers wait a min or 2 and it goes away. I usually see it when I'm shooting the deck gun. Tried reducing My sound acceration but no help. May upgrade my drivers if it gets too bad. But for now I can live with it.

Yea my only problem is the framerates in the harbor and I'm there maybe 5-10% of my patrol so its not really that big a deal for me, as soon as I get out to see my framerates go back to normal, though I have yet to encounter a convoy I'm sure that they should be fine, I think for me its all the action going around the harbor ie people plants tons of smoke tons of ships (more smoke) plus the now occasional plane fly over.
