Default I will look stupid on this thread. Terminologies needed...

For the first time, I felt to ask what mean some of the ship terminologies

What mean DD, BB, DC and the other 2 letters thing we always talk about.

I know that DD mean somethings related to Destroyes, BB battleship or battlecruiser, DC for Depth Charger...

DD= Destroyer (2 letters needed, so double D)
BB= Battleship (same as above)
BC= Battlecruiser
DC= depth charge
FF= frigate
CV= carrier
CVE= carrier escort
CVF= fleet carrier

CVL = Light Carrier

CA= Heavy Cruiser

CL=Light Cruiser

DE=Destroyer Escort

K=Corvette

SS=Submarine

There's a whole slew of different letter codes for everything from minelayers to cargo ships but those are the major ones.

Those hull abbreviations date back to well before WW2. Still in use today....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hull_classification_symbol

They've kind of become the favored shorthand for warship types in many naval games as well.
