Default Around england in a super tanker take 2

For those of you who dont already know ive already atempted this one once before getting close to the Channel i ran aground, this was mainly due to lack of planning.

Here is the link to my first attempt:

http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=48102

Well fear no more i go again, with added aid of a map .

I will command the super tanker Knock nevis (Jahre Viking), heres a little info on her.

Knock nevis (Jahre Viking) is the worlds biggest ship, at 565,000 tonnes she is 200,000 tonnes heavier than any other ULCC.

She is owned by Fred Olsen and is singapore registerd, and flagged, she is now permanantly moored and banned from European and american waters, However im breaking the rules because i can

The Jahre Viking / Knock Nevis is 1,505 feet long and 266 feet wide, she is so wide she cannot even transit panama or suez canal (Ive tried trust me it dont fit).

So whats the plan?

Well i shall leave at 1700 GMT Sunday 12th of March and i hope to have compleated the entire journey by The 18th of March which means the engines wont come off from Full ahead.

How will you guys know?

Il keep you up to date with screen shots and a log type description every now and then.

Am i nuts?

YES

Whats changed since the first attempt?

Ive acctualy planned a route and also downloaded another two tugs so incase i do get into trouble they can help me out, to show you the map here it is the route is the red line i start at liverpool.

The route will consist of danger spots, the shallow water is a nightmare it is possible i have looked that the ship can just get through all of the area's, but it is a squeze.
The most problematic area's being the Dover straight, the northern islands of scotland and also the straight into the irish sea.

The ship can only do 15 knots its slow bulky and well doesnt like moving very much but i think i can do it i hope i can and i will be happy if i do.

Some screen shots from last time:

Container ship off the port bridge wing

USN DDG passing by again port bridge wing

The huge bow of the ship

Looking aft and yes the white blob is the superstructure

The acctual bridge

Looking forward note you can bearly see the bow.

Passing by a ferry very very close call.

Who ever put this guy in charge needs to be shot he almost collided with me.

A zoomed in shot of the Queen mary 2

Jahre viking (Knock Nevis) as she grounded and listed to port

Jahre viking (Knock nevis) again grounded views from the tug boat aiding in the rescue.

Get those annoying protesters in the Greenpeace Zodiac to throw you a line. They can help pull at least.

Not doing to badly.

Here is another picture of now only the smitt rotterdam and me sailing into the sunset, shortly after the rotterdam turned around and went home.

Didnt need her any more untill we get to dover and a few other spots.

Ok quick update its now 2145 been going for over 5 hours and already im ahead.

Im now off the coast of wales and heading now south course 185 speed 15.8 knots.

I am estimating by tommorow noon il be off the coast of lands end if i can maintain 15 knots or more (have seen her go to 18 knots).

So Oberon perhapse the Dover life boat should be alerted because im going to need some guidence through that straight i plan to meet up with six tugs to help guide me through.

E.T.A on dover Tuesday at 0400 at a rough rough guess if i continue on this good.

Update of progress:

So far ive managed to keep to shedual rounding the lands end at 1237 and making speed for dover straight, however due to wind and weather my speed has dropped from 15 knots down to 13 knots so 0400 may look sketchy for a dover arrival.

All is well so far and all is good.

Could be me but I think charts MAY be a help when navigating a big ship in such close quarters!
Maybe next time try Kiel Canal?
