Default Virus problems...

Alright, I finally got my computer back up and running (after having to completely reinstall Windows and everything), and was looking forward to being able to play SHIII on a computer that actually meets the minimum requirements.

Haha, silly me.

First thing I do, after going through all the recovery hoo-hah, is fling my SH3 disk in and install... only to be told that SHIII.dll is infected with the Win95.Puron virus and that (still don't understand this) the disk itself is also infected.

Sigh.

So, after much searching and searching, I find another copy of SHIII and bring it home. Same thing with the .dll file, but thankfully the disk is ok. I searched on here for anything remotely similar, but nothing mentions that virus.

Help? Please?

You should be able to take original software back to the store and request a replacement for the same thing. Most places like Best Buy will do that. Sounds like maybe you have a scratch on he disc if it's original.... now, if it's an actual copy then you're screwed and you should be buying the game anyways.

The FIRST thing you need to do is get a good anti virus program and ALWAYS keep it up to date. It's a mean place on the web with mean people, who like nothing better than to ruin your day with a virus.

Go here and do an online scan.

http://housecall60.trendmicro.com/en...rp.asp?id=scan

They also sell a good anti virus program.

It's another copy of the original, not just a copy. I don't do the bootleg thing :P

The disk itself can only be infected if it's a bogus copy. So, either your disk isn't an original, or you got a false positive. False positives are usually either A) a crappy antivirus program, or B) an overly sensitive one. AVG gives more false positives than anything I've run across. Is that what you're using?

My antivirus program says that some of the ogg files could be viruses and puts them into quarantine if i scan my harddisk with the heuristic feature ticked to scan for possible unknown viruses.

I just got mine back from getting some work done on it, and now although i can play SHIII, in the middle of the game it goes back to desktop and a message appears from PC Cillen saying it detected a virus, MS02-039 SQL server Resolution Exploit.
So I had a feeling it was a microsoft thing, and went online and checked.
It said it was a security bulliten relating to a issue with servers ??
I have disabled system restore and run a check nothing came up.
I was able to restore the game luckily though.
Any one have an idea on this and how to fix it ?

Thanks guys.

Bill.
