It is a game bug. I don't believe there is a fix for it, but could be wrong. It's one of the things we've learnt to overlook.
![]() Blue, try the Scapa Flo single mission, as that's where it shows the worst. In real life it would be impossible to detect ships thru land.

The end of the line isn't exactly where the sonar contact is, it ends some time before it and the sonar does not, to my understanding, hear through land.
