Request: Sea Hurricane skin for CAM ship

I've almost completed a mod to add CAM ships to the game. The 3d modeling is nearly complete. However, skinning isn't really my area of expertise (especially aircraft skinning). Any experienced RAF skinners out there? A sea hurricane or hurricat skin created for a flight sim would be great. I'd like it to be as historically accurate as possible, and it would have to fit on the Arado template for the NKGN/NAMC tga file. I have a provisional skin for the hurricat, but it doesn't look very good. Also, I don't want to use the stock Hurricane texture. I'll be sure to mention any help in the credits.

Great to hear. I would welcome the opportunity to put a CAM ship on the bottom - but would she be able to spawn an air attack like an aircraft carrier?

I always though your merchant skins were among the best produced on this site.

Wish I could help with the skinning. (I can't make skins at all).

@AG124: I'm quite sure I can create an airgroup for the ship consisting of a single Hurricane. Obviously, there will be no way to reduce the total number of spawning opportunities to two (the number of planes most CAM ships carried). I will compensate for this by making the spawn probability extremely low.

There's also no way to have a launch sequence, and there will always be a plane on the catapult. However, there is a plausible explanation - after launching their planes the crews were supposed to construct a dummy Hurricane to fool the Luftwaffe.



The ship itself is based on a large class of British wartime freighters that were very closely related to US liberty ships, despite the split deckhouse config. The pic above shows their general style: cluttered decks, an acoustic hammer on the bow, and a small funnel. Like liberty ships they were about 6900-7200 tons. I may release a non-CAM version of the ship as well, since they were so common.

If it helps any, the unit code of the Merchant Ship Fighter Unit was 'LU'

In the picture iambecomelife has up, although it can not be made out, that particular aircraft had the code 'NJ-L' I don't know why it had the 'NJ' code, or what unit that designates.

For searching the internet, the official designation of the hurricat was Sea Hurricane Mk1A.

My reference for this info is

The Encyclopedia of Aircraft of WWII General Editor Paul Eden, and I knew this info was in here because some time ago I made a Hurricat mission for Pacific Fighters, and this was part of my research. (I never released the mission, any PF players out there interested?)

Anyway, somebody did do a hurricat skin for PF a year or two ago, it was on the now dead il2skins.com website. I have it on disk somewhere. I can dig it out if you like, mabee you can use it as a model? Just remember its not my work, so credit will need to be respected for the creator.

I've got quite a few aviation refs at home and I could do a skin for you if you like but you would need to send me the texture plate in tga or jpg form so I'll know where to put the wings, fuselage, etc.

That's awesome, NiKuTa. It reminds me of the IL-2 skins. The mix of grey and standard camo looks very realistic. However, this is going to have to fit on an area of the TGA that's very small. I'll send you the ship's skin so you can adapt it to the aircraft. Many thanks to everyone who's offered to help.

Also, it's a shame to know that il2skins is no more...

Here are some screenshots. It's going to be a single release ahead of the other new merchants. I'd like to add a more detailed catapult and improve the modeling of the hurricane before it's released - right now it's actually a heavily modded Arado seaplane from the stock commerce raider. Tomorrow I'll work on adding the aircraft group so it spawns hurricanes.

Yes this skin reminds Il2 skin, becouse i still fly this sim, and do my own skin for this game.

I thing that i finished this skin but i must know something. Is this skin for Hurri I or IIb or IIC (this in game)??????
