Default VII/ VIIC surface depth is too far out of the water

I'm having trouble with the VII/VIIC sub running at the proper surface depth. It's running higher than normal; the depth gauge says 3m.

A stock install of SH3 shows the VIIC surface depth at about 5m.

The .cfg file is correct for surface depth (SurfaceDepth=5.8;meters). I've changed this number to see if it helped, to 7.8m, but the sub still rides on the surface at 3m.

Can anyone tell me what other file(s) I may have messed-up, that caused the sub to ride so far out of the water?

I have a stock SH3 install too (no mods) and could fix this problem with stock files, if I knew what files to copy over to my modded version of SH3. Any idea as to which file(s) might fix this?

p.s. I thought the depth gauge might be wrong. It's not because I've checked the VIIC with camera-view enabled, and it is riding way too high out of the water. Props are out of the water half the time, even in calm seas.

Regarding thi VIIC Type, ...is it worthed to take it over a VIIB? The specs say it runs a little slower, but that it dives faster. And it also costs renown (3000). Should I save this renown for something better, or should I take the C type.

I play the plain game, with no mods or patches.

In hopes also of saving any rebuttal, no. Marginal improvement for far too expensive of a reknown hit. 'nuff said.

You could try copying the stock NSS_Uboat folder for that type of uboat ("\SilentHunterIII\data\Submarine\NSS_Uboat7c\" for the VIIC).

The problem file is NSS_UboatX.sim which contains the actual max surface depth (the surface depth listed in the cfg file only affects from what depth and up the game considers your boat "surfaced" and able to man the tower or guns (or use radar, radio, etc) and nothing else)

That's what I tried, but worried that it might mess-up modded-files. Didn't seem to tough.

Moved the old folder, then copied over a 100% stock folder from SH3\Data\Submarine\->NSS_Uboat7c<.

After that, the VII runs 5m deep on the surface. Copied over custom settings from the old/modded 'NSS_Uboat7c.cfg' file (snorkel depth, cruise-settings, salvo-settings, etc.) and it works fine.

If it happens again I'll know why. Thanks.

p.s. Looked at the 'NSS_Uboat7c.sim' file, and know I wasn't messing with that one
