There are so many mods for SHIII that I find it difficult to figure out what mods are essential and which ones all though they add something to the game are really needed. The other thing I find confusing is exactly where the files go when you want to install them. I know that alot of the mods come with readmes, but some of them don't seem to. Could someone be so kind as to point me to a place where I can get the info on the files. Thanks in advance.

Get the Generic Mod Enabler and that will solve most of your problems on where to put what. Most mods come ready to use for it. If they do not it's pretty easy to figure out how to make it so you can use the enabler.
As for the rest RuB 1.45 and IuB (not sure of latest version) are two if the big ones out there. Harbor Traffic 1.47 give the game a little atmosphere and Advanced Hollywood damage mod makes dying a lot more fun (Those last two are a personal opinion of mine). There are three recent ones that show some promise. Do a search for "NYGM" and they will pop up. It stands for Not Your Grandmother's and there is a damage mod, a crew mod and a campaign mod. These will overwrite a lot of the files of mods I mentioned above but mostly in a good way. The eye candy mods are out there and there are a lot of 'em. Just go with your personal taste. Most will not interfer with the mods I listed above as far as I can tell. Trust me, before you know it you'll be tweaking things yourself to make this fit with that etc, etc.
