Default My A7V600 died - having problems with new A8V Deluxe!

Hi, the reason I decided to get an Asus A8V Deluxe was that the transition to a board with the same chipset (VIA), AMD Processor and AGP slot (didn't want to throw my ATI 9800 Pro) would run my existing XP setup without too many hastles.
After updating the 4in1 drivers, removing old network, & audio drivers all SEEMS to be working ok but after doing a Sisoft Benchmark the old system (Athlon XP 3200) was doing slightly better than this new Athlon 64 3700+!
Could anyone suggest what may be wrong or is this what it should be?
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Reece.

Moved to "General Topics".

Just because the chipset is also VIA doesn´t mean that it´s exactly the same as the old one. The A7V600 uses the KT600 chipset, the A8V Deluxe the K8T800Pro. You should reinstall Windows.

That is also what I would have thought having read his post.

I noticed the same thing when I upgraded to the Asus A8V Deluxe with AMD XP 64 3800+, ATI X800XT PE from my Asus A7V Deluxe AMD XP 3200+, ATI 9800XT PE.

At least I now know that I'm not the only person that did not really gain from the upgrade. I am beginning to think that there is something with the Asus A8V Deluxe board that needs changing, but inspite of all the research I have done, I still have not found what it is yet. And I did reinstall Windows too.

This might be a bit off topic, but here goes:

I have just bought a new motherboard and cpu as a part of a PC upgrade.

The MB is a ASRock 939A8X-M.
Heres the trick: Its a cheap and fast MB that supports BOTH AGP and PCI-E!!
Perfect for those who want to do a MB+CPU upgrade, but doesnt want to upgrade their graphics card just yet!

At this time, its the only MB out there that can do that.

Dont be mistaken...its not a poor quality MB

Well since it cost AU$150 for the motherboard I am not seeking a new one! but Thanks McBeck
I Ghosted my system then did a new install with all new drivers then did the test, and no change! Atleast I could put the ghost image back though.
Yes Panama Red, seems that this is normal, at least the processor runs a lot cooler & have overclocked this 3700+ from 2.2 to 2.4 gig and is an improvement! Apparently the main feature of the A8V is the way the system runs the Dual channel rams (as long as the board is fitted with 2 or 4 identical DDR 400 DIMM's).
Not giving up yet, if I find something substantial I will PM you!
Thanks All.

In case it may help, I also have a A8V Deluxe. I have Kingston ram (a gig) and a 9800 xt. (also with a 3000+ amd 64)

There are a few guys with different mbs that have worse specs and yet they get more fps then I do!

Reese:
I look forward to your "findings". It was sort of disappointing to "upgrade" all the new hardware and not see anything to show for it.

Yes I think that the AMD 64 bit chips may not be utilized fully unless running Windows 64 XP, wonder if a reader running this OS could give some light on this.
I have been having problems with the computer resetting when it feels like it, mainly while on the net, could be coincidence though! Will keep playing with bios settings have found the following so far:
MDA should be disabled as it relates to Monochrome displays.
AGP 3.0 & DBI Output should be enabled with 9800 pro card.
ACPI enabled but not with version 2 as it is not utilised in XP SP1, may be ok with SP2 but not sure, apparently it's a rather new addition to latest operating systems.(Microsoft)
Still testing and will report back with any new developments.
Thanks All.

In most applications and games you won´t notice a speed difference.

By the way, an AMD 64 is always faster than an Athlon XP at the same clock speed. So if your XP 3200+ (2 Ghz) scores higher in a CPU benchmark than your new CPU (2.2 Ghz) then something is wrong.

That´s almost never just a coincidence. Some people reported that with the A8V, a BIOS update (or even a downgrade in some cases!) helped to solve that problem.

What´s the BIOS revision of your board?

I seem to remember that the AMD 64 is nativly a 32bit, but i can emulate 64 very good.
The Intel 64 processor, does it the way around.
The AMD 64 processors are well know for being the very best gaming platform there is right now.
I think it the last CS world championship that an Intel was quoted for saying some thing like "To my disapointment I doubt that theres any Intel CPUs here" Meaning that they were ALL AMDs

Well, the last Intel CPU I ever had was a PIII 350mhz! Since then it has been Anthlon XP and soon it will be Athlon X2 64.

AMD and Athlon

You have restored my faith in the Athlon 64 series chips McBeck, Thanks.
Yes the last Pentium I had was a Pentium II 400, my friends K6 creamed it & it was cheaper, so since then, AMD!
The system has been running great for about 8 hours straight now & can only put lockups to: 'Cool & Quiet' (enabled) or AGP 3.0 & DBI Output (disabled) or ACPI 2.0 (enabled), these have been changed & running good since.
The clock speed Gizzmoe is almost identicle to the XP 3200 but from what I have gotten from other forums is that this is normal The bios revision is 1014 (2005), I've been told to stay away from the other versions as they have problems!
Haven't tried games yet as I'm still getting the system to a stable & good performing state. Have overclocked now from 2.2gig to 2.4 gig & still runs cool & stable so far, in Sisoft Sandra multi media CPU is: Integer x4 aEMM/aSSE 22750 it/s
Any remarks on this benchmark is appreciated.
Thanks.
