Default SH3Cmdr - Expanded Patrol Log - Need Assistance!

After spending some time conceptualising, I've now started programming the SH3Cmdr expanded patrol log feature and am up to testing iteration 1.

To assist my testing I'm looking for some more files. In particular I want English text *.crp files with lots of entries and the associated Log_x.cfg file.

So, can anyone who:
1. plays with English text (I'll worry about French and German later - currently I'm testing in French and it just "gets in the way") and
2. saves mid-patrol, preferably right at the end so that their crp file is very full

pls email to me their *.crp and associated Log_x.cfg files?

Email address is at the bottom of the SH3Cmdr Help.html readme.

Thanks

Hehe, although the damage I suffered does not appear to be as bad as the damage you suffered! LOL.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, here is a *very* rough, *very* early screenshot of an interface which will allow you to edit your patrol logs ready for insertion into your (SH3Cmdr generated) KTB.

Essentially, I envisage it being used thus:
-just prior to final docking, save your game (save and exit, whatever)
-load up SH3Cmdr. A new action "Edit Patrol Log -> <1 to #patrols completed>" will be available for the selected career.
-when selected, the above interface will appear - prepopulated with the contents of the *latest* crp file. You can then edit (as shown), delete, or insert entries. You can also apply a user defined filter (SH3Cmdr will come with one prepared, which, not surprisingly, you can edit) which will remove/replace all the rubbish and will just leave the key events in nice plain English, German or French.
-when finished, save the changes. This will create a *new* file in "SH3Cmdr KTB" ready format. When you next create a Personnel File for the selected Commander, SH3Cmdr will search for this new file. If found, it will use it to populate the KTB. If not found...well the fine details on whether SH3Cmdr will autofind the latest crp file and convert "on the fly" are yet to be decided...at worst SH3Cmdr will pick up the Log_x.cfg file, as it does now.

Anyway, that's the rough concept. I welcome any comments. But, before anyone asks, I am not implementing anything that requires continual Alt-Tabbing. I envisage that if you want to add something unique, jot it down and insert it via this interface after the patrol is completed. If you use SH3 to record events such as the weather, I would envisage that the only manual records you'd want to keep relate to observations, or other "personalisation" of the patrol.

Glad to have helped!

What does APPLY FILTER do? I would like a way of identifying user made entries only, for example.

Also, why can't this be used to edit any CRP file? Why do we have to create a savepoint just before patrol end and exit SH3 then? Why can't we do this once the patrol is completed?

It removes the irrelevant entries. Don't ask me what they are just yet, 'cause they haven't been defined. Although, you will be able to add/remove entries from the filter list yourself following a defined formula.

I don't understand. The point of saving just before docking is to ensure that the latest crp file has the most entries in it. Remember, a crp file is *only* created on a game save. No saves=no crp files. And the entries are cumulative, so that a patrol you save right near the end will include every entry of every earlier crp file (ie game save point) for that patrol.

See, for example, I *never* save my games so this feature would be useless for me, *unless* I get into the habit of saving *just* before docking. Then, I get the advantage of editing an SH3 created log file, instead of entering one from scratch.

Basically, I want to make it as simple for users as possible. And, you don't have to save, exit, reload, dock, whatever, you only have to save just before docking.

I hope this makes my thoughts clearer.

Curiously, why would you want to edit a patrol's older crp files?

Gee, I didn't notice how big my screenshot was!

Nevermind. Understood.

The only thing I would still like to be able to do is to add entries to the most recent CRP file when I've exited SH3 in mid-patrol. Otherwise, you have to wait until the patrol is finished before adding entries.

I see no reason for that.

UPDATE: Some people may want to update older save's CRP files because they plan on reverting back to that old save the next time they play.
