Default Installation of new GW supermod...

Hi Folks,

If I remove all of my current mods and delete the SH3 folder in "My Documents", will this count as a "clean" install of SH3 with 1.4B patch? Or do I have to completely uninstall the game and install all over again? I certainly hope the latter is not necessary....

Thanks,
Longstreet

Yeah that would be a good clean. If you don't, you will be able to retrieve saved patrols, settings, and some other personnalised stuffs.

heres my question on the subject. does it take ages for the mod enabler to actually enable the mod? because i've been waiting for good 15 min now and im beginning to think that it simply froze and im wasting time...

Hi!

I loaded it - it takes a while for JSGME to back up all the files being replaced and then copy all the new files over from the Mod folder. It's a pretty beefy mod, after all.

Personally, I rename the SH3 folder in "My Documents" to something else - it keeps the old information, but SH3 still thinks it's a clean install and will write a new SH3 folder.

Hope this helps.

All i did was remove and delete all Mods from JSGME re-booted PC, then installed Grey WolvesW via JSGME and have had no problems since.

If you wish to keep all the mods you have now, you could do a second install of SHIII for GW. I've heard of 4 SHIII installs on one machine just for different effects and WOW. Just remember to match your exes and SHIII folders in My Documents to each install.

At one point I had as many as SIX different installs during development of GW to compare different elements.

With a small crew building and moving fast... it became a force multiplyer. :|\

I have a bunch of installs.

One is on a backup that is just an install that is right off the CD.
Two is with 1.4b, no dvd patch, and the directx res hack. (My 'clean' install)
Three is the one that I assembled most of the mods I like into one big mess. I must have at least 30-40 mods in that install.
Four is my fave. GW with some very small changes.

I wasn't into the whole modding thing. I did a lot of that Doom and the first Quake. There is a certain point of view that indicates that playing a game exactly like the devs wanted it to be played is the best way.

In the case of SH3 I don't agree. I feel the devs were rushed and would have polished the game a lot more than it is. But I am also very thankful that Ubi gave them an extra 6-8 months that they did get to add the fully dynamic campaign in there.

The quality of work that is coming out of the SH3 community is insane. GW, IUB, RUB, NYGM, and all the little hacks and skins and music and sounds, etc... are so good.

You can't help but install some of these things just to see what someone has done to the game to improve it in their eyes. Sometimes you don't agree, but in most cases you can see the quality and the thinking behind the work.

OK, gotta stop blabbing.... should go to bed....

Just curious, but where does the mod status of SHIII stand against other games. I am not familiar with the game community as a whole so i have no point of reference. There are soooo.. many mods for this sim. Is this unique? :hmm:

I am amazed at what has come out of this community here at Subsim. Furthermore just reading what is in dev mod-wise is mind boggling.

I think that there are few other games that have been so heavily modded.

Red Baron3D and CFS3 I think may be some others that could be compared in some ways.
