Hello All,
I am very new to the sim so I apologies in advance if I am asking something already discussed that I missed. If you enable the realism settings No map contact update you don't get the "hidrophone lines" from your ship to the direction of the contact. I find it unnecessarily tedious to have to draw such lines on the map myself. If you don't enable the above realism settings, though, each time you have a visual contact it is correctly identified as friend or foe on the map (blue/green/red color). I feel that this takes something out of the game since I don't have to worry about checking the nationality flag. I find it impossible to simply ignore the information given to you since it is so prominent. Is there a mod that keeps the hydrophone lines on the map but doesn't identify the target for you as neutral/allied/enemy? Another related questions. When the hydrophone lines are active I can just mark a spot at the end of such line and get the target position; after 2-3 such spots I can plot the target course. If you enable the "no map contact update" you just get the contact bearing but you can't be sure of the distance, making plotting the course of the target more difficult. I suspect that the latter option is more realistic, is it so? In this case, is there any mod that plots the hydrophone lines but doesn't make them stop at the exact distance of the target? Sorry for the long message and thanks for any answer, Luca |

The RUB (Real U-Boat) mod does something completely different, and in my opinion much better. It disables the renown 'hit' for having 'Map Contact Updates' enabled, but it changes the map itself. When you have visual contact you see a square or diamond, but no colors, and it's only listed as 'Unknown' unless you have the WO identify it, or type it in yourself.
With hydrophone contacts you see a dotted line, representing the WO drawing on the map. It gives the direction and type (warship, merchant) of contact, but nothing else. It's much less distinct than the stock version, and doesn't give the distance, but it's there on the map for you to see. |

I wanted to play the standard version for a while before adding mods but I will, instead, dload and install it immediately. Thanks a lot, Luca |
