Default External view question

I really like to admire my u-boat on the outside and the explsions of the depth charges in close proxy to me. But is there away not to allow the camera to go more than .....lets say 50-100m or so from your u-boat?. You might just say "just don't move that far" but I would still would like to have that restriction because I'm like a naughty boy and sometimes and I just can't help my self to see what nation the suface ship is or to move forward into the harbour and do an advanced recon of the area and pick out the biggest target {CHEATING I MUST STOP !}

I like the < and the > button the key-board to look at my u-boat on the outside, but as state before there mut be a way to keep the < and > feature but disable the fly around camera.

This might be just a stupid idea and yes I have no self discipline when using the external feature

You could edit the max height of the freecam to be -1 meters. That would completely render the freecam as useless, but the < > camera would still work.

Obviously, that would solve your problem.

The problem with the < > keys is you can warp around. I find those views give me TOO MUCH INFO!.

Oh, a single merchant..... hmm what country..... < Oh neutral.. bah, i wont approach.

Ohhh a merchant, < british, and hes unarmed.. man the deck gun!

or a series of tropedo impacts and you see one miss and hit the ship behind him, you know where you hit him, and you can watch him drop speed and fall behind the convoy.... buahhah i know where you live, and i never even popped the scope or put on a set of hydrophone headphones!

Now personnaly ive gone the exact opposite approach. Ive disabled the < and > keys in the appropriate file, and enabled the event viewer, although it doesnt really help me that much with being able to view the depth charges pummel my boat (something i really enjoy watching).

So that leaves me with just the freecam, the only cheating i have now, is looking on the surface to see whos crapping on me. But other cheating, i have to WORK at it to see it, and that solved that problem for me.

Ideally i wish the < or > key would only let me view my own sub, and nothing else. Then the -1 freecam i think would be perfect.

The best way to disable the F12 free cam is to remark out the key assignment for it.

In your sh3/data/cfg directory look for COmmands_en.cfg or commands_De.cfg (depending on your language).
Scroll down to Cmd9

change the line:
Key0=0x7B,,"F12"

to
;Key0=0x7B,,"F12"

Likewise you can do the same for the unitcam assoicated with the free cam.

Scroll down to Cmd 50 and Cmd51
Key0=0xBE,,">"
to
;Key0=0xBE,,">"

or
Key0=0xBC,,"<"
to
;Key0=0xBC,,"<"

What i wish i could do is stop the unit cam(?) the < > keys to begin and end with the player sub, and not cycle to whatever is visible on the map.
