Default The Movies: Just a note to let folks know what I'm doing.

Hi folks,

You might have noticed a drop off in posts recently. I've become heavily involved in a new game called 'The Movies'. It's awesome. Anyway, since the folks on this forum might be somewhat interested in general war topics, I'm here to let you all know that I've made a WW1 action film. It doesn't have anything to do with submarines, so forgive me for posting somewhat off-topic, but I figured folks on this particular forum might have more interest in this than on any of the other forums. If you can bear the large download the movie is freely available at www.beerymod.com/TheyGrowNotOld.wmv. If you watch it, please let me know what you think.

Beery makes a video, too?

This I gotta see!

(when it downloads...)

Speaking of your being away, I might have to contact you in the next short while for some possible tweaking suggestions re: survivability for the final RUb

Wow, that´s impressive! How long did it take to make the movie?

AVI version, 49MB. Same resolution as original. Needs Divx or Xvid codec.

What did you make this from, Beery?

I thought it was absolutely remarkable. Very moody and grim - you couldn't hope for better for something from WWI.

Technically, it's really well-executed and very clean. I thought the sound effects were a little on the light side - but maybe I'm spoiled by Hollywood and the 'oomph' they give everything.

Subtitles are usually a bit of a distraction, but in this case they actually added to the World War I feel; sort of like watching a silent movie.

I'm very impressed, for sure

I started this morning at about 6AM and finished at about midnight. I had a couple of breaks for food, but I'd say it took me about 16 hours to make that film. The Movies really gives a lot of flexibility - you can make almost any sort of movie you want: romance, action, Sci-Fi, Horror, Westerns, Comedies. Unfortunately there's no U-boat set though.

I also have another movie online at www.beerymod.com/SpiresofMarmitron.wmv. It's a Sci-Fi movie, and it was my first serious effort at making a movie using 'The Movies'.

Hey, if anyone wants to rate my films (I could do with a boost in the ratings), it's pretty easy to register - you don't have to buy the game to watch and rate movies, and there are already thousands of movies hosted at The Movies website. The website is at www.themoviesgame.com and my studio (where you can rate my movies and where all my low-resolution movies are kept) is at http://movies.lionhead.com/studio/Beery1.

Sorry. Now I guess I'm spamming the forum. Just ignore me or have the moderator remove the thread if I'm bothering anyone. I'm just pretty excited about this thing.

Looks like a spinoff of The Sims

Thanks. That's high praise indeed coming from someone who is a movie master. The game basically makes editing and setting up shots a piece of cake. Can you believe I've had the game less than a week?

I have been too lazy to make sound effects so far. Basically I'm still honing my editing and directorial skills. For the WW1 movie I decided to do a sort of voiceover narration (in the form of subtitles) and I cranked up the background music just so that I could put all sound effects more in the background (because the stock ones simply aren't that good). I think it turned out pretty nicely all-in-all.

The great thing about the game is that the AI actually makes movies all by itself if you let it. Sometimes the results make sense, but often what results is hilarious - sort of like an Ed Wood movie.

Thanks for indulging me Gizzmoe. I know we've had our disagreements, but I know you're one of the good guys.

Awesome movie by the way.

I have used your Red Baron II mods for years as well as your SH3 mods. When you said that you were going to be moving on to other games a few weeks ago, I was wondering what game had captured your interest. Pretty good movie for the time you have spend learning this new game.
