Default Operation Sportpalast

Yesterday I was finishing my assignment on grid am19, (no torpedoes left after a convoy attack ; 45k tons down ), when I recieved a bdu
message "inviting" all submarines in the vicinity of norway to join operation Sportpalast with battleship tirpitz, I couldn´t refuel and rearm and reach the rendevouz point in time so I let it pass,
later checking the web I found it was a real operation to intercept a couple of allied convoys, do these mission appear normally in the campaign?.

What MODS do you use or was that in the stock campaign? I'm very interested. What month and year were you in?
:hmm: :hmm:

Just returned home, just Harbour_Traffic_1.46_standalone, and a few custom tweaks, no campaign mods, this is the bdu message

From: Befehlshaber der U-Boote|To: Zu allen U-Booten||All U-boats in the area of Norway may go to 400km north of grid AF17 to join with the battleship Tirpitz in Operation Sportpalast on March 8, at 1200hrs. Repeat: Go to area 400km north of grid AF17 to join Operation Sportpalast on March 8, at 1200hrs.||Bdu

date: march 6 ,1942.

I´ll try to load a previous save and join the op., tell results later.

Nope, wrong!

there are several campaign mods out there with included "operations" like overlord, drumbeat (paukenschlag) or the invasion of norway!

you should read the readme´s of those mods to get more info

in a mod i had, a few month ago already, i was ordered to join a special group for the invasion of norway. it was the most exciting experience i had in the game, because i had to read all those messages from uncle karl very carefully. he ordered a lot boat to special positions, and ordered to be silent/invisible till the go-order for the invasion. if i remember right, i was ordered as u-97 ("my boat" ) to attack the bay of narvik/enemy ships to get sure that the german invasion-fleet has an easy journey.

that was so cool! there was a lot(!) of traffic in the area around norway, there were a lot of enemy warships around, but i never was in a good position... but i got several merchants

what i was talking about? ah yes: there are "operations" in sh3 (with mods)...

Operation Sportpalast is part of the harbor traffic mod by Rubini. It is a real encounter. It is awesome to watch. Even if you had no torpedos, you should just watch it. Also, as part of harbor traffic mod is the Bismarck's entire operational history. From her first moments in Hamburg to her final moments when the Home Fleet sinks her. There are other encounters with Tirpitz as well if you are in the area.

When I said I´ve lost a couple of hours it was because the awfull sh3 save system, when I tried to load a previous save, I lost my crew , so I have to figure out the save directory, and copy a crew from another save, when I finally managed to do it, burnt half of my fuel to make it to the rendevouz point in time (I'm based in brest) , let three convoys pass and crash dive three times, ther was nobody there, but I'll try again in another location, the rendevouz point it's not a point, it's a line "Go to area 400km north of grid AF17" so I'll try it again.

Ok, started over again.
when I told you I let convoys pass I was not kidding.

Recieved message.

Need to spend a lot of fuel to get to the rendevouz point, mostly bad weather .

Got there and there was no one to recieve me
I start a search pattern to the north, and managed to get invited to a party

After spending a lot of fuel flanking my boat.

Just a little longer.

After firing three torpedoes in a row...

I've shoot the two remaining to the escorts, one hunt destroyer and one light cruiser down, I put my tail between my legs, submerge to 100 mtrs. and run out of there before their friend can catch me, bad luck I haven´t enough fuel to tail the convoy, lots of tankers and c3's.

not a bad day.

Nice shots. With the battleship, cruiser, and destroyer sent to the bottom, you should have stayed around to see Tirpitz and her escorts pummel away at the remaining merchant ships. :|\

There where two remaining escorts that chased me for about an hour, If i had more fuel, I'd have shadowed the convoy and try to take down a couple more ships (4 torpedoes remaining).
