Default Battleships escorting convoys

I've read in a book that the British used battleships to escort convoys, and especially during the time when Sharnhorst and such were on their commerce raiding missions. It's from a german source, but I wonder what BBs were used and had that been the case actually? It would be a very nice element to add to the fast large convoys...

It's true. A number of convoys has BB as "far escort". A Task Force attached to convoy against German BB raiders.

Did some casual research on the subject. It seems almost every British battleship or battlecruiser was used for convoy escort during the war. The old men-o-war were used most often. They were there to protect the convoys from commerce raiders as the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau and the German Hilfskreuzer.

This link points to the wikipedia article on HMS Ramillies, one of the battleships.

I read about this in Bismarck survivor story - book. He mentioned that battleships protecting convoys was normal.

I havn't seen any BBs escorting convoys in the game yet, though I have found cruisers on the outer rows of some convoys.

I've seen two Hippers escorting a mere cargo ship (ok, granted I was looking at the RND layer from the Mission Editor)

but I still saw it...
