Default Need help with update please

I tried to update SHIII to the latest version but it would not complete the process so I uninstalled it and tried again. Then I found SHIII patches at the UBI soft website under support , ;but there was no US version. So I went back to Subsim downloads and found it there, but when I tried it again it only partially updated and then was unable to finish. What now? Thanks! Joe S

When you uninstall you must go to the location where the game was installed and delete any leftover files/folders that remain. The SHIII uninstall program does not remove everything it seems. Once that is done you can then reinstall and patch to 1.4b.

Thanks HW3!
I uninstalled the game again, (third or fourth time), downloaded the patch again, and checked the UBisoft folder, which was completely emptly. I then ran the patch and it got up to about 75% and shut down. I tried it again and no luck. Any ideas what I can try next? I have the game sucessfully loaded on my old computer, what are the chances of copying the data folder to the new computer? Thanks! Joe S

Just tried another upgrade, downloaded from Ubisoft product support, got a message that the file contains corrupted data. Where can I get a good one? Thanks, Joe S

Tried it again, with a download from a different site, got a message that said cannot udate file SHIII/data/library/harbor-kit.da. What does that mean and what is the fix? Thanks! Joe S

Search The Community Manual for "reinstall" and follow through everything suggested there to the letter, including registry cleanup.

I'm a littel bit hesitant to mess with the registry. Before I do that, I was wondering if I could copy my SHIII folder on the old computer, where it works just fine and is updated, on a DVD, and transfer the whole folder to the new computer. Has anyone ever tried that? Any idea if it would work or not? Thanks! Joe S

Yes, that works, but you should install it from the DVD first, otherwise the registry keys are not there. After that manually delete the installation and put the backup into the same folder. SH3 doesn´t need the registry keys to work, but SH3 Commander and maybe even JSGME does IIRC.

Thanks Gizzmoe!

Now all I need is some explanation as to your instructions.

I have SHIII installed on the new computer, but not updated or modified in any way.

I go to the old computer and copy the entire SHIII folder (mods and all) onto a recordable DVD. I assume it could take a while, but thats OK.

After I do that, and before I transfer the SHIII folder from the DVD that I just recorded, what do you mean by "manaully delete the installation? When you refer to the "backup" I assume you mean the good version of SHIII that I took off the old computer. If SHIII doesnt need the registry files, why does that affect the patch installation? When copying the "backup" version of SHIII, can I just rename the old folder and copy the new one in the Programs folder to avoid getting all the sub-folders mixed up? Thanks for your help! I would be lost without it. Joe S

Some Good News for a change!

I copied the Patch from my old computer to a flash drive and ran the patch from the flash drive and it installed completely! After adding the Sailor Steve sounds and the revised config files I am up and running on the new computer. Thanks everyone for your help. Joe S
