Jesus!
Isn't there some kind of.. Control Rotor or Refueling Limitation to the angle of the rotor upon refueling?? If not, there SHOULD be! Lucky lads. ![]()

From what it looked like the drogue dragged the helicopter down and when he pulled up the rotor chopped the probe.

The drogue couldn't have dragged the helo down, they weren't even connected. From my observation, the pilot was following the drogue down, and when it came back up, he had to pull up to avoid chopping off the fuel line. The big problem was that when he was recovering, he pushed too far forward on the stick and chopped off his fuel probe.

I'd imagine they have some kind of baffling system that prevents that sort of catastrophic failure, at least for the refueling plane. :hmm:
Also, I think the line would be dry until a link is established.

If you look you'll see a small cloud of fuel when the probe first starts to drop. The probe was in the basket at the time.

i saw this a while back... my main concern in either case would've been a blade failure due to impact... that would've definitely been catastrphic...
i was actually quite surprised that they could dip so low... but then again, i know precious little about helos... hey, nice video Oberon... looks like a few of the events were shot at airdrop capitol usa, pope afb and the fort bragg drop zones... i'm sure a few loadmasters had some explaning to do after some of those malfunctions... and those lapes runs, wow... spectacular... especially the one where the vehicle continues down the field on its own ![]() --Mike |

OK my mistake just looked at the video in higher res and indeed the pilot followed the droguge.
Strange I thought he would have pulled back but then maybe he was under pressure... Luftwolf what was with the " ![]() |
