Default Using the rudder

Is there a way to turn the rudder just a few degrees for fine tuning a course?

The Hard to Port and Hard to Starboard hot keys turn the rudder way too much for fine tuning a course. I know I can use the mouse click method on the Rudder Dial but I'm looking for a keyboard hot key for that one degree at a time change.

? ?

Well,
How about just clicking on the rudder meter? If you click on the compass once, it turns into a rudder meter, here you can fine tune your course.....
If you want to go back to compass, just click it once again!
Solved!

I'm a keyboard person.

Is there a keyboard shortcut?

Or is there a way to map keys and commands. Most games and simulators do that these days.

I find a lot of commands I've gotten used to in sub sims are missing here. For example, I remember a keyboard hot key that would turn the boat to the heading showing in your view (periscope, binoculars, UZO). Now, in SH3, I have to screw around with a few things instead of using my favorite one button commands, not to mention needing to use the inefficient mouse.

There actually is a key to set course to view. And to set view to heading.

The 2 keys left of backspace are the ones - at least on my german keyboard. Not sure its the same in US or UK.

Search the mods in subsim - there is one called "setkey". Never tried but I wouldnt be surprised there is something in for you.

Thank you Phylacista.

Those two keys that you mention are nowhere described either in the Manual OR on the Quick Reference Card as being used for anything. I'll try those keys out next time I fire up SH3.

Geez! Can't those people at UbiSoft stop relying on a forum such as this for explaining basic mistakes and omissions they make. This should be described in one of them. These controls can't be a late after-thought programming item. They have been in sub sims since the beginning of them. If something is not in the Manual like this then just fire the person responsible and get someone who CAN do it right.

Although far from perfect, you cannot blame UBI that this is not described in the manual
UBI could not have mentioned it there because the view to heading and heading to view buttons are a fix that was made in the 1.3 patch.......

you can find the readme here:

Thanks for the update. The view to heading and heading to view buttons do work. I'm glad I know about them now. I still wish there was better rudder control via the keyboard.

Hmm, relax mate, Those features where added later. Therefore they are not in the manual. But please hit F1 or read the readme file, as any serious uboot officer would have done before risking his crew's live in the battle of the atlabtic
