Default Just in from the cold

Well, its been quite a while since I posted here regularly, but I just orderd DW and I have a few questions. What are the newest mods and missions out for DW. As some of you will probably remember, I was quite into Sub Command, and all the mods like SCX and SCU and the many water and sub skin mods that were released. My question is, since I haven't kept up with DW, what mods and missions have been released, and is there an SCU equivelent for DW yet, or one in the making?

Currently, all we have for DW is the LWAMI realism mod. It adds no graphics enhancement, no new platforms, but what it does give... check for yourself

There won't be any "DWU" owing to the fact that SCS has reserved all rights for creating new platforms. You can do a forum search if you want to know more.

So what has happened to DWX? And by DWX, I mean cool looking replacment graphics that are more realistic, and sensor and weapon mods that increase the realism of the game. As I understood the last time I was here, that is what DWX was going to do. PCU as it has now been called was going to make other platforms playable, like SCU did in Sub Command. Any how I think I can understand that now DW has hit shelves commercially Sonalysts wants to reserve that right so they could come out with a patch making other platforms playable. Is there any sort of editor a la SCEdit that would let me design my own platforms and weapons (the weapons would probably be alot harder because some would need their own doctrine files)?

One of the reasons Half-Life survived beyond the single player game was the interest generated by a vast mod community. The same was true of Quake and Quake II. And a host of other successful titles. The longevity of and interest in any title is greatly amplified by mods. And the support of mods by the developers. There is a lesson here. One suggestion would be to mod the user friendly Silent Hunter III to a modern Subsim.
