Default What's your favorite music/game mix?

When I was a kid in the '70s (man I feel old saying that - that was like, last century/millenium...), the thing to do on Saturday mornings was to watch cartoons with the sound turned off, and listen to rock-n-roll on the stereo. Now that I don't watch cartoons anymore(because they suck now), I do that with games.

What's your favorite music/game mix? Do you listen to the in game music, or do you have your own music playing, and if so, what's your favorite mix?

My favorites:

Mech Warrior2 / Theme from Conan the Barbarian
Sims2 / Moody Blues
X2 / Classical(Blue Danube, etc...)
Civilization / Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn(Blues)
Operation Flashpoint / Classical(William Tell, Flight of the Valkiries, etc..)
Doom3 / Any Punk or Heavy Metal(or for a change, try something that contradicts the nature of the game such as Tom Petty, the Beatles - Also Chumbawamba or Smashmouth)

I enjoy listening to old radio show channels on Live365.com while playing SH3.

The right era and feel.

Depends on the game, I think. Some games have great soundtracks but if I put in way too many hours it will sound old (e.g. morrowind, SH3). I usually only play my own music if it doesn't distract from the mood.

I tried playing SH3 with Sigur Ros in the background and it's perfect until ships start exploding and depth charges start dropping to Jonsi's dreamy vocals.

Rome Total War music was good, and midieval total war as well. Usually music if off for me though.

Im surprised no one put up the most obvious: I put the entire Das Boot soundtrack in my gramophone folder. Once I actually found and started attacking a SH3 convoy during the song "convoi" (when they attacked the movie convoy). Adds to the excitement immensely!

Heh,

Currently i've been listening to alot of music off of www.ocremix.org. it's a site dedicated to remixes of video game music. I'm sick and twisted .. and that's why I love this stuff

I found that Total Annihilation had the best stock music ever. Totally mood specific. Also Homeworld (1 and 2) had excellent music. ANd if anyone here ever played Grim Fandango they'll know that the film noire be bop jazz was excellent in it.

I don't often play other music with games. I find if Im not paying total attention to the music it gets old without me actually enjoying it.

But I think the ultimate game/music combo is Listening to "Ride of The Valkyries" while playing the Omaha beach map on DOD.
