Default Dual installs and the campaign files...

I know how to do a dual or multi install, but what about the saved campaign files in your "My Documents" folder?

I want to run both supermods (one on each install) and sign up for WaW II, but don't want to loose my TGW campaign files or the other ones. I was hoping someone would have answered this in my other post, but no one did.

MultiSH3 lets you have separate careers for multiple installations. See http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=98608

I have 4 different SH3 installs and use a separate SH3Commander for each one...that way there is little chance of mixing the saves up ie: give each campaign a prefix such as 'GW Hans Wittman' or 'HT Hans Wittman'

Ok, since I'm going to have 2 installs of SH3, this means I need 2 installs of Commander as well?

Yes you will. If you d/l MultiSh3, all the instructions for a multi-installation are in the readme. Potoroo has given the link above.

Not necessarily. It is possible to use the same installation of SH3 Commander but with multiple shortcuts, each with the target modified by the /l switch. However, in cases where you need to preserve quite different cfg values, as in say with a 1.4b installation and NYGM, it is preferable to have multiple independent installations of SH3 Commander.

Ok, I just did the 2nd install by copy and paste. Then went in to check the 2nd install. Got as far as the NYGM install screen.... then it crashed to desktop.

I'm thinking this is because I didn't rollback SH3 Commander and uninstalled it before copying. Any ideas?

I have all the stuff I need for both, and plenty of time to get it right.

So, if I did something wrong, call it temporary insanity from a DC attack and help out with a step by step plz. You guys have ben great thus far

New problem. SH3 crashes to desktop when I have the NYGM_2.2 overlay patch installed. What's up with this? Works fine with the original 2.0 installed though.

Another new problem.... How do I get a 2nd install of SH3 Commander to target my 2nd install of the game?

The /l switch. It's documented in the SH3 Commander help file.

Didn't work. I did a seperate install of it, because I have 2 installs of the game.

Maybe I misunderstood but it sounds like you made your second install by copying and pasting files.
That will not work because it must be in your registry or will CTD.

Take your current SH3 and change the name (in Program files UBI folder)to anything else (SHIIIB, ex)

Then put you DVD in and when it opens click "repair".
This will install a complete new game called SHIII.
Remember to put the 1.4 patch before you modify anything.
With two installs they share the SH3 in My documents so be sure you name your careers so you open them in the correct install.

You can copy and paste your SH3 install as many times as you like
I have

Adding another install by using the repair method above also works good but will give you an unpatched install

I usually make a copy of an install I know works ok then if I bugger it up in any way modding I just use the other install
