Radar and aircraft

I used to avoid installing radar on my subs because of the bug with an earlier version of the game, but recently I decided to start using it. My question is, can sub carried radar detect aircraft? I know the radar is directional (earlier versions if I'm not mistaken), so if you can only detect something in front of you, but can it detect aircraft?

After playing quite a few hours today, was able to answer my own question. Yes it can. The range at which it picks up aircraft is not all that great, but those of us who like to dive rather than fight it out will appreicate the difference.

I just got radar for the first time. It should be non-directional, but the Radio Op allways sits there spinning the dial like it was directional. Will he pick up stuff that way?
