Default I got my U boat commanders handbook today!

I ordered my copy of the U boat commanders handbook about 6 months ago, I received it today.......
It is mandatory reading for all KaLeuns. A lot of what is written in this booklet, applies to SHIII.
It shows me again how deep this game is!
SH III rulesl !

I got mine about 6 months ago - maybe they sent me your copy

It is a must read for any SH3 Kaleun who wants to get a little deeper into the game than just point and shoot - a very interesting insight into the world we're simulating/playing in

I'm jealous! Amazon said they'd send my copy in about 3 months. Part way in, I decided to add a copy of Das Boot. That re-set the timer, so that the delivery would be another 3 months. When I found a cheaper copy of the movie, I cancelled my movie order, which re-set the timer to another three months. Then, a week before they were going to send the book, I got an e-mail from their computer saying that it was automatically re-allocating my order, and the ETA would be about six months.

The whole time I spent dealing with Amazon was around six months by the time I decided to cancel my order.

I've had that same thing happen with Amazon. Their order update feature sucks, as do their estimates of delivery time. Two years ago, around this time I ordered a book as a Christmas present for my daughter. Delivery estimate was 6 weeks. With 12 weeks until Christmas I figured I had plenty of time. Christmas came and went with no word from Amazon about a delay. So I contacted them. They said they didn't see a reason for the delay, but it would take another 6 weeks. My daughter's birthday is in March, so I left the order standing. March came and went without a word from Amazon.com. I complained again, same response. So out of sheer bloody-mindedness I left the order standing. After Christmas last year I decided to cancel the order. A few months ago the book was still listed as 'available' with a 6 week delivery estimate.

Don't let the delivery time fool you. The price is right, though.

Ok this is weird.

I'm in the UK and could only find the handbook on the US Amazon site; paperback version. Ordered it and got it in about 10 days; no problems.

Getting battered around at the moment as I keep reading a few pages at a time, so it gets carried around a lot.

I happened to have a copy of this handbook that came with an older subsim, called "Drumbeat".

I never read it when I was playing that game, but now that I'm playing SHIII, I'm finding it quite interesting. And I actually employed one of the tactics listed in the book last night!

In the section "Defensive Action and Pursuit by the Enemy" the book suggested turning the "narrow profile of the boat" (i.e. bow or stern) towards the source of the enemy's pinging. I guess the idea was that this would present less of a surface for the soundwaves to bounce back. I'm not sure if this actually helps in the sim, but at least it was something to try....

Two destroyers were hammering me pretty hard for nearly two hours of real-time play – the worst depthcharge attack I've ever faced and lived – but I got away with just some minor flak gun damage.
I'd say my reading paid off on that count alone!

Lol I also use the U-Boat Commander's Handbook as a sort of "modder's guide" for myself.

It is definitely a must-have.

For anybody not wanting to deal with Amazon, here's a link to it on Barnes and Noble's site (I got mine from Amazon months ago with no delay, so I can't say if B&N would really be any better, but alternatives can be good):

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...s&cds2Pid=9481

I noted when looking at this though that they say new copies are NOT available from B&N, though there may be used copies available - guess maybe there's a reason Amazon may be having a problem filling orders after all

I bought my original when AOTD first came out. It seems they get a "run" on their printings every time a new batch of subsimmers gets born or a new U-boat sim gets invented. :hmm:

I recently bought the Handbook after a long effort to find one. I do not really like to deal with mail order and particularly do not like to deal with internet credit card purchases. I obtained my copy from my local Borders Bookstore by placing a special order on the www.bordersstores.com website. They will take your order and have it delivered to the local Borders store of your choice, at no extra charge. After having gone through the Amazon runaround and having no success thru other outlets, Borders had my order at the store in under two weeks. I have special ordered several other u-boat oriented bokks and have received all in two weeks or less. To those of you who have access to Borders stores, this may be an option.
