Default Following BdU orders...

In my opinion, campaign aren't much immersive, since I can achieve the main objectives of every patrol very soon, and I always end my patrols hunting enemy merchants on the waters around Ireland.

After a short thinking, I realized that there are many way to conduct a patrol, so I'm courious to know how do you play...

Also, how did ww2 commander behave?

I stay in the patrol area as long as I can, and if there's nothing happening, I start to head back to base, choosing the path where I know there will be ships to sink. But if I'm feeling courageous, then I will go on a harbor raid depending on what mood I'm in (kind of cheap, but sinking or destroying a moored ship before it moves is an easy kill). I sunk my first tribal class destroyer in the Forth of Firth.

I've been down their before (my last IXB) and finished patrolling. Nothing happening so I went into Freetown, passed the last freighter (heading up to England) on the way into the port, and arrived to find absolutely nothing. Now I have the harbor traffic mod

Once I've done my assigned Patrol grid, then its free hunt time.

Like now, i'm in my 2nd patrol and its 1939. I've been ordered to patrol grid AM32, once I've done that, I'll cut down through the Irish sea, then head back to Wilemshaven via the English channel.

There are bound to be ships to sink in both the Irish sea and the Channel.

Generally I proceed to my designated coordinates taking on any worthy targets of opportunity on the way. I usually patrol the area for the alloted time and then take the leasurely route home again taking on whatever targets of opportunity present themselves, possibly sneaking into a harbour if I'm feeling up to the challenge.

I'll swing by knows hotspots on the way to my grid, loiter for the required time, then off to the hotspot(s) closest to me.

Usually I'm out of eels before 50% gas hits... then TC home

I just go to the Patrol Grid and wait out the 24 hour period, just for the renown, then I go FREE patrolling near ports and sink'em while they're sleeping!

If I have a new command I'll stick to the orders. As my captain gains experience I'll start to branch out and look for kills. I like my patrols to be historic, and I like the boredom, so I don't mind if I go for weeks and never see anything.

I totally agree. I am now on my second patrol, and heading towards the Flow again. (glutton for punishment). Took a sneak peek into the Flow and found a AuxCA sitting pretty. U-3 will be in the annuals of history.

It depends on where the patrol zone is. If it's a pretty 'dry' area I'll just stick in for the 24 hours and then head along happier hunting routes on the way home.

I spend as much time possible just south of Ireland, out of the aircrafts' reach... One day, I will get a passenger liner. One day.
