Default Missing, or Just Rare?

I know just about everyone posting in this forum played AotD and more than likely GNBNA (39 - 43 version, the best one!), and I have a question.....

In both of those games, you would occaisionally run into a BB (mostly the older Renown, Royal Sovereign, or QE class BB's) escorting convoys. But in SH3, in the stock game I never saw anything but DD's & DE's escorting convoys. I just upgraded to IuB, and for the first time there was a Southampton class CA escorting (sank the sucker, too!) a convoy...

Anyone ever seen a BB on escort duty?

I've definately never seen a BB escorting a convoy. I can see why too. I don't really think a BB would be very pointful as an escort since the most threatening thing to a convoy would be a U-boat, and BBs aren't equipped to deal with them, while DDs are. Besides, it would be a bit of a waste of resources allocating a rather large and expensive BB to escort a dozen or so merchants.

Or at least that's my thoughts on the matter, I have no idea how it went historically.

They're out there. Rarely, but out there.

Otherwise, it's indeed very rare. Usually, larger warships would cover convoys as support groups - sailing separately and at much faster speeds.

Interesting, we're in the same city.

Quite the rainy spell the last few days, no?

Yep, though it's the cold just before that which kind of bothered me.
Not that I'm not used to it, but I hoped for better when hiking up to the north.

I sunk a cruiser in convoy recently by the way. That came from the Improved Convoys mod, I believe.

Hiking up here? Not from here originally?

Funny that, I also sank an Auxiliary Cruiser in a convoy with Improved Convoys Mod. I've also sank a few other cruisers, who are always smack in the middle of the convoy. Fiji I think, if memory serves. A nice mod, definately.

Never seen BB'S escorting convoys and am on my 3rd campaign.
I have seen them in TF's escorted by sadistic killers.
But never escorting a convoy.

No, I live and go to school here, but I'm certainly not originally from here (only been here for a year). Not a bad town

I believe the one suspect BB people often find is the one that sails with one of the med convoys (but it goes all the way to Scotland).

Otherwise, good places to find capital ships are convoys with the CVE's - you can pick them up in the arctic, I believe, and also in the HG42 convoy.
