Default To beat a drum or not

Cant decide if its worth going to the eastern US coast and carribean(?) or not.

Are the landmarks there? Does the geography change on land? Or is it just more of the same, just a longer trip in getting there? (running the HT mod)

Debating if i should switch to a IXB for the longer range or stay in the VIIC. Will the milkcows mod extend the range of a type VII?

I suggest that you go in a Type IX. Don't bother if you just have the stock game; destroyer patrols are much heavier than they were historically, and merchant traffic is sparse in some areas. Get the latest version of the Improved Convoys Mod for a more realistic experience.

Only serious mod im running is HT modfied by its designer to include milkcows, and hollywood.

The rest of the mods im running are purely asthethic.

I know later in the war, ill probably want to get my arse out of that type IX - its a large, and doesnt dive very fast.

I think the call to distant ports has its alure to me. To put it another way, can i sneak into New york harbor, see the statue of liberty and maybe sink a frigther while am at it? Or if i go to the florida keys, will i see palm trees?

How will the shipping traffic compare to there, vs Churchhills wading pool?

If you just want to see NYC, why not fire up the 'Happy Times' single mission with a XXI or IX - ignore the convoy and just set sail? You can go right into the harbour, and see the sights unmolested, since the USA is neutral at the time of the mission.

Still takes quite a while to get there, though - even at 1024x.

Or open the mission editor and place your sub there.

Parts of Caribbean are regular gold mines of tankers and bigger merchants. Air cover can be a bitch, there're also a fair amout warships patrolling but if you know where to hunt, you should be netting record tonnages like nobody's business without a worry. Not much convoys though. Type IX is highly recommended. Sceneries- palm trees and islands: sound good?
