Default U-boat Numbers

What file(s) contains the info about which u-boat numbers are assigned to each u-boat? Is it the SSType***.dat files only that contain this information? What I'm trying to find out is if it's possible to modify which u-boat numbers/boats are assigned to each respective flotilla.

Yes. The files that govern U-boat numbers are the SSType***.dat files in data\Roster\German\Submarine. These are the first place the game goes to find U-boat numbers. If it doesn't find them there I believe it may go to the Flotilla.cfg file in the data\Cfg folder, but I'm not sure on that.

It is possible to modify which boats get assigned to a flotilla, but it means that you'd have to use SH3 Commander in order to do it. A mod would have to be made for SH3 Commander that inserts the relevant flotilla-based SSType***.dat files into the game. It's a lot of work (as many as 1100 U-boat entries would need to be sorted out) to make such a mod, so I doubt it will happen soon.

The latest version of SH3 Commander gives players the ability to change their boat number to a correct number for their boat's flotilla.

Thanks, Beery. Flotilla.cfg is indeed the file that controls which u-boats are assigned to each flotilla. I may see some editing work in the near future for me, as currently it seems only 3 different numbers are available per U-boat & flotilla at any given point in the campaign.

I think you misunderstood me. Flotilla.cfg should NOT control the boats assigned to a flotilla. I've never seen a boat listed in the Flotilla.cfg file appear in the game. I'm not saying it can't happen, but as far as I can see it shouldn't happen UNLESS the SSType***.dat files are missing. I've tested this, and even when there is no SSType***.dat file in place I haven't been able to get the game to use the Flotilla.cfg file for boat numbers. It may go there, but (perhaps through insufficient testing) I haven't been able to make it go there.
