When you turn it louder, its on loud.
The rest you can figure out, its part of the excitment. |

My point is I dont see anything like an arrow or mark or something showing at what volume I'm at
- I figured it would get louder, I audibly can't tell any difference when I click various places on the knob. Is there some sort of mark on the knob, or is it elsewhere? Or is it where I click on the knob? Or...? |

My experience is that you can only change the volume if there is a sound contact. No marks or so!

In my type two II I can adjust volume (indicated as: Ambient Volum) whenever I want. It does not matter if there is a contact or not. The button simply works all the time.

Yeah, the knob works all the time, but without sound (your engines, a contact, etc.) you cant tell. What I do if I am unsure at which volume I am at, is turn my engines on real quick. Then try fiddling with the volume knob. You'll certainly notice the difference then.

I found that the top portion of the button is for putting the volume up, down for down, etc

Let's dispense with the obvious.
Your hydrophones will pick up noises when you are operating the hydrophone station, and you are submerged. The big needle points to where you are listening. When you are running all stop and submerged, you won't hear much. Spin your props a little, 1/3 speed in enough. Turn the needle to 180, and you should hear your own screws. That's a bit more advanced. Now, here's the not-so-obvious: click and hold on the top of the volume knob, and drag the mouse in a little circle, like as if you were twisting the knob. This will change the ambient volume for you. If you "twist" too far, the volume will step down to minimum again. It's a little tricky, but not difficult. Some people move the mouse up and down on the knob, and this will work too, but I find the control is "looser" for this technique. Once you have adjusted your volume, stop the engines, and do a hydrophone sweep. |

Twisting the knob? I don't think you're making it any louder than by using the standard procedure Farside mentioned. It's that easy. And if you cut your engines, you'll be able to hear sounds at 180, too. |
