Default Stange slowdown, stuttering

Hi All,

I'm on my 14th mission - my first to N.Y....
I've plotted a course to take me more or less along the convoy routes - of course, this requires all ahead slow

But on this mission, I'm having stutters in map view. They're so bad that I can't zoom all the way in without losing control of my mouse. This also causes the sound to be distorted. All other views - no problem.

Now it MIGHT be, that there is a lot of traffic that I just can't see...On the other hand, it's strange that the problem gets worse when zooming in. I did try one of the Naval Academy things, and it didn't show any problems. Then again, it didn't have any other traffic in it.

Did I change anything on my system? Well, I did install Media Player 10, but have since done a System Restore back to MP9 - no change! No other changes have been made lately.

Have any of you guys/ladies seen something similar? Any ideas? Anything?

How high is the time compression when that happens? Does it still stutter when you lower it?

Hi Giz (Boy, that was FAST!)

This is without TC, like when I'm attacking. It makes it very hard to place the marker over the target. The mouse is all over the place.

So the mouse and the sound stutters...

Start dxdiag (Start/Run), click on the Sound tab and lower "Hardware Sound Acceleration" a notch or two, that could help. Or, if it´s already set to "No Acceleration" set it to "Full Acceleration" or some setting in between.

I will usually get stutters in map view with 1024 compression when there is a convoy close by. If I lower it, it will go away. That is usually how I know I am approaching a convoy.......

The same is happening to me, maybe there is some early version of AEW plane nearby

Hi All,
Yes, I'm aware of the TC1024 stutter but as I said, this has nothing to do with TC. And I've never seen this happen before, so either it's the mission itself or something HAS happened to my system - maybe it really was the MP10 update, and the System Restore didn't REALLY restore my system - but usually it works excellent!
Will try to lower the sound accel, but as I said - this hasn't happened before.

Other suggestions, keep 'em coming!

Odd stuttering for me has sometimes happened and I didn't know why until Microsoft Update reported to me that an update was ready for me to install -- and a particularly large one at that. It won't ask you if you want to download it, it'll just go ahead and do it.

Also, I end up with all kinds of virus scanning and spyware scanning in the evenings, often when I'd normally be playing.

There are also some viruses out there, one virus/worm is making the rounds right now in fact and hones in particularly on Windows 2000. Get the latest updates from Microsoft to make sure you don't get hit. Our company lost its internet connection for a while trying to stem the tide of the latest one. Not sure if it was targeted or just affected.

If you don't scan for viruses and spyware..why the heck not? I have to regularly clean out my system and I have what I believe are very healthy practices (firewall and many scanners). Without those I'd get bogged down pretty quick without even doing anything.

Good luck.

Default Strange slowdown, stuttering - SOLVED!!

Hi All,
First, Thanks for all your suggestions!
No, it was not TC, nor a virus, nor MP10, nor the display driver (even though I installed CAT 5.8, which didn't help).

The reason was a long line....When I started this mission, I plotted a line staight from Lorient to NY - and just left it there for reference. Deleting that line immediately solved all stutters, so now I'm happy again

Just goes to show that very often you wind up looking in the wrong place in these matters

Thanks again,
BRGDS

Yes, that was interesting. Wonder why that happened? Too much 'great circle navigation' calculation to handle for the game..? :hmm:

Beats me too...
Maybe once there is some kind of drawing in a plansquare, SH3 needs to consider these in a different matter? Then again, it doesn't happen if it's just the plotted course. You can easily try it yourself.

I dunno, so shall we just define it as a buglet?
