Default Do torpedo boats fire their torpedoes?

On one mission in my campaign, i surfaced near english torpedo boat, and exposed my broad side to him, set my speed to 0 knots...i waited for him to fire torpedoes, but he only fired guns?
Can somebody tell me if torpedo boats use them?

If they're standing on the docks, they don't need boots if they've got sneakers.

Wow, that one sucked... but anyway, their torpedoes are IIRC used against larger shipping. What was your distance to the boat? It might not be very smart of him to fire a torp at you if you are able to steer away from it by applying flank.

Ula Jolly,

Have you actually seen any ship fire off torpedoes, some of the them show they carry them in their cfg's?

I ask the same question long ago.............no enemy torps allowed...unless someone can crack the game engine code ....... and anyhow 3 deckgun shells answer the question...........

I suspect that the dev's didn't get the code working properly in time and just disabled it.

Rather unfortunate - destroyers, elco-boats, other submarines and torpedo bombers all used these as a primary weapon.

In fact, in late war the Allies used planes that dropped the FIDO homing torpedo against uboats - destroying about 60 of them.

The dev's didn't model this because it was an 'instant kill weapon' - however some form of enemy torpedo firing would be nice.

Well it is a shame really, we had it in SH2 and it wasn't a great kill weapon for the AI, we got AI submarines working and they fired torpedoes as did a few destroyers.
It was a funny feeling hearing the sound-man say, "Torpedo sounds detected sir," when you knew you hadn't fired any.

I just thought it was scarey cand ended up diving to 70m's

I think if torpedo's were somehow 'fixed' then it would add a completely new edge to the elco's they would be feared a lot more and you would be less willing to fight it out on the surface (well, i would be less inclined to duke it out with 'em)

the destroyers and even battleships - all used torpedoes, so lack of this in SH3 is indeed dissapointing. But I guess we think of SH3 in terms of Naval sim, not Subsim.

As opposed to Ubi, who obviosly thought that the subs must fire torpedoes. Thankfully, they've done that part ok. The subs do fire torpedoes...

perhaps they couldn't sort the AI torp targetting system out in time..shame as they were insistent that they were going to add wolfpacks etc to the game...without the torps i guess that side of things went out the window...personaly i wouldnt have objected to subs and other ships that could only fire torps at dead ahead with no of the beam adjustment...even if it were a bit naff....some jiggery pokery with the mission files etc would still have allowed for wolfpack attacks ..mind you they didn't allow for ANY sub ai apparently...talk about throwing the baby out with the bath water..
sooner or late tho i'm betting it can be done...even if it isn't terribly pretty !

So what happens if you add a T-V to a B-24 loadout? You guys have said the torpedo bombers don't drop torpedoes, but is that because they're not programmed to attack? So maybe a B-24, which IS programmed to attack, armed with a T-V would try to drop it on you...any thoughts on why this would/wouldn't work?

also, late in the war, i think the Germans developed a radio guided missile which was fired from a Ju-88. is this modeled in the game?
