Default How does experience work?

Sometimes after completing patrols, it shows that some of my crew members have, say 350/300 experience, for example. Afterwards, I go on a patrol and it still says that. When do they level up? After completing the next patrol?

After a patrol, go to the "personal files" piece of paper on the desk, there it gives you the option of awarding medals, promoting crewman and assigning 1 new speciality to officers and NCO's. You don't always get enough promotion certificates to go around so choose wisely

Hope this helps

Also, you can only promote crew members that have full experience.

I remember someone posting something about experience for those in the torp rooms when torps are fired. I've tried this myself, putting a couple guys in there with torp skills and leaving others outside and completing a patrol as such. I even used all the torp skilled guys in the torp rooms for loading. In short, a couple designated guys remained in the torp room for firing and loading as well as designated guys who only loaded...all in all all my torp guys loaded together each time.

After completing a patrol the ones who were in the room during firing definitely had a greater increase in experience. Roughly 15 more experience points post patrol.

I'd imagine that goes for everyone on-station during an attack and doubly so for those performing in their rating ie. torpedomen in the torpedo room, radiomen manning the sets, helmsman in the control room, etc.

When the first number becomes greater than the second the crewman becomes eligible for promotion to the next rank within their class.

Out of their class as well, if a vacancy exists. It is entirely possible to have a crewman go from Seaman to Lieutenant Sr, which is quite a kickass touch. Although I doubt it's realistic neither is keeping the same crew patrol after patrol, through flotilla transfers and new commands. With the crew most of us build up, BdU would be chomping at the bit to transfer 75% of them to new construction.
