Default Came back to a completely different game..

Although I pre-ordered SH3 and got it the day of its release, just because of the "gamer" sort I am - it quickly turned into a CD case coaster for my coffee cup. After racking up ridiculous tonnage scores with almost top flight difficult settings and getting bored with the abundance of lone merchant coup de grace's... I put the game down after a few weeks - just as I do with every game and move on. After paying homage to my FPS tendencies by getting Battlefield 2 and looking for a different sort of fix, I found SH3 sitting by its lonesome ontop of my desk between my speakers (not so many games get the amazing privilege of nesting there) I decided to reinstall, update to 1.4b and do a run through of some mods I've found here and around the general SH3 community - and I'm left with:

Where am I? Is this the twilight zone? Who's game is this? From installing a variety of mods and tweaking some code lines, the community has turned this game into something up and beyond. I haven't had this much enjoyment simulating (gaming is a term left better for arcadish stuff) in a LONG time. With the realism settings stacked up to snuff 100, and running a variety of mods the immersion level is fantastic and my in-game experience as been of a historical standing. Not too much tonnage collected every run, and when you've found a good convoy - you've struck gold. I've never been involved in a game in due time after it's release to see such a devoted community and modding interest save for when I was very very heavy into Rome: Total War. It's safe to say I'll be around for a long, long time with this game - and I can't wait to see some of the future/upcoming mods roll out the door.

To say it short and sweet:

Yes, yes we do.

Can you tell me which mods you installed? Because I have just installed SH3 after a long time not playing, because I was busy with BF2, patched it up and want to recreate that same experience

Sure thing, I'll give you a run down of the mods as each zip/rar/exe file sits in my Mods folder:

(I downloaded some that I didn't know were included RUB)

A) AIL Sky Mod 1.2
B) CorrectedBearings1080
C) Harbor Traffic 1.44 & 1.45
D) NeuUZO and Periscope mod
E) Pato 1500mm
F) Silent Hunter III Commander 1.43
G) JSGME (very important for managing mods instead of dealing with the files yourself although I can't get it to work so I install them manually)
H) Church's Emblems package Volume I
I) No_Fatigue crew mod (doesn't eliminate crew fatigue, but tones it down)
J) Sept39 - Aug 40 radio mod
K) Wazoo's draggable nomograph mod
L) Readable dials mod SH3
M) Type VII Realistic Hull skin
N) MooseMeasure
O) Convoy route overlay map
P) RUB 1.42 (and everything that comes with it)
Q) SH3 Internal Life Mod v1.2
R) every sound pack I could get my dirty hands on for the Gramaphone (I almost never hear a song twice during a patrol! yep, that many!)

Can't get enough stuff from this modding community it seems. Sooner or later my list will have to go into a Roman numeral study list. :|\

My blood was starting to boil and I was ready to draw me sword to cut you into little shreds Halifax...... but I found out you were be being positive about SH3 and this comm.......Not like a few nutters that rant and rave about how bad SH3.

Yes this game rocks, I love it, I acually think I am an addict.

Happy Hunting

Not at all. I've been getting plenty of action since I reinstalled with 1.4b and the collection of mods. When RUB 1.43 was released earlier tonight (or this morning....) I pumped out a sitting for 5 hours straight. Thank God I have today off.. or I might have very well fell asleep at the helm.

On the other hand, I devoted today for mowing my lawn and doing various yardwork. Oh geez... I'll be on that Toro falling asleep at the wheel.. "rudder 5 degrees starbo... what the.. STONE WALL!!!".

My biggest enjoyment is the external view!! Now don't get me wrong, Ilike sinking ships as much as the next guy or gal. But I get almost as much pleasure from just watching my boat sailing along on top or below the waves. Am still trying to get the voice command function, which is most irritating. Other than that I am in love with the game! Any other mods that come out and improve on the appearance of the subs or ships and I see if it conflicts with what I have onboard already. Thew only thing I have noticed is that there are many VII skin mods, but not for the the IX and that is the boat I am mostly in.

!
Didn't know there was such a thing.
Anyway, won't the crew's talking confuse the game?

Your not addicted until you start playing SH3 in 1x mode ALL THE WAY! Yes 1x mode. I actually built another computer just for this mode. So i can play it like a normal sailor and up the time, on my main computer while at the same time turn around in my captains chair and monitor SH3 running in 1x mode on my other computer
