Default Just popped in to say Hi (then back off again)

Hi folks

I am still really busy with study and work but thought I would pop in a see if the interest is still with this game.

I can't wait till dec when I can start playing again but still I have to wait.

Whats been happening on the mod front lately.

From first glimpes at the board it looks like many modders have unfortuantly gave someone money from their hours/days of work. (is this true?)

Oh well my sympathy goes out to all those modders who may have now stopped providing new mods due to the knock they have been given.

It also goes out to all those players who probably in time to come (will start getting mods with starforce written into them lol)

Anyway enough is being said about that!

Just a few questions to ask some of the old timers.

What mods are in and what mods are out at the moment?

Is there any big project underway?

Any official expansion or sh4 talk?

I wish I could fly round to all the boards but time between work, fun, family and courses is at a minimum so I best hope some nice folks give me a quick rundown.

hi nice to see you around,

quick summary of whats in progress at the moment

1. Ops Mods (nearly ready) - lots of new bases etc.
by Egan,CCIP,Sailor Steve and jasonb

2. Ship editor - looks like something special this..

by Canaris

3. Jungman is fixing sensors (doing well so far)
Manual is extending the 3D bubble so we can see further..
http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopi...9588&start=200
Also new water mods possible now too, fog limits found!

Few other things too, Rubini harbour mods etc and jasons improved convoys will be included in RuB or Ops.

As far as X1, only one person "sold out" and that was the creator of world mod - Len Hjalmarson (uses Reg as an alias). He approached x1 about an unofficial expansion and, cause world mod was just a campaign layer, decided to bulk it out a little with mods taken from here..

He had permission for some but not all. We found the 235MB mod compilation at a backdoor at x1 software and downloaded to see what it contains - a lot of our mods without permission....

Lots of trouble soon followed, X1 took a big public relations hit after posting porn here and getting banned at Ubi.com too for posting racist stuff. The guy behind X1 was furious that he had been caught red-handed, and his repsonse was childish and offensive.

Amazing, messed up situation. The two people involved hid behind alias and excuses (he young nephew had accidently posted the porn using his computer)... etc etc.

The community is still pretty big. Some people have disappeared though (eg don't hear Cavalier, yourself etc , but new ones keep coming. Things are alright I think, most the things people wanted to mod, have been modded by now. The hex experts still have large projects to work on, modding things that we mere mortals cannot.

On the whole, healthy though. I havent done any mods myself for a while now. But I cant think of anything I want to do...

Excellent to see you here, even if just for a moment!

Jace has got some of the main points...

RUb 1.43 is on the way, and I have your work to thank for helping improve it. I've taken your Hollywood Damage mod, read over all your instructions about the damage model as it is in zones, experimented/tweaked/calculated things for a few days and came up with a vastly more balanced (or I hope it is) damage model, along with adjusting sensors, gun damage, and so forth. Although it was concluded by me and Beery that Hollywood Damage, as it originally worked, was far too weak especially in the face of close DC hits and Jace's planes in AirPower (causing players to die a bit more often than they should), it's been absolutely invaluable in improving the whole SHIII experience. Technically speaking, RUb 1.43's damage model could be called be something like Hollywood Damage 3, since that's what it's based on, although some of the changes are pretty major.

So your work there lives on. I would hope someone picks up your sound mod project, but alas, nothing so far...

Cheers!

Great hearing from you if only for a moment. Hope all is well
CCIP and Jace pretty much said it all. We are eagerly waiting for the latest RUB/Ops mod to come out. Glad Beery got the Hollywood Mod into last version of RUB. As you know I thought it was an awesome addition then and I guess from the tweaks that have been done it will be even better.

Take care and don't be a stranger
