Default Who Gets The First TypeXXIs?

i'm currently sailing out of Lorient... Nov 1943...

got my snorkel, just like the guys told me to do... didn't see the option for the anti-radar coating... so i departed on a short patrol, well, short in comparison to where they've been sending me till now...

i did what i promised... submerged at the pier, departed (at night) submerged running on snorkeling diesels, and stayed under for most of the mission... except for one occasion where i did something super stupid...

i surfaced to lay guns on a merchant...

the sneaky bast**d dropped the canvases and showed it's teeth in the form of some deck guns... and near mortally wounded me...

i did get him in the end... but only after diving and following him for an hour, waiting for him to slow down because of his wounds... then i layed 2 eels amidships...

then his friends, the allied air corps appeared out of nowhere... sending me deep, and i stayed submerged for the rest of the patrol (rougher than i thought it'd be)...

the only good thing was sailing back into port (submerged), nurses waving, and surfacing right in the dock...

cool... ok, back to the original question... which Flotilla gets the first TypeXXIs... and when...

... assuming i live through the next patrol or two.

it's getting roughly savvy out there

I normally submerge outside of the harbor. I never thought of submerging at the dock. What kind of clearances did you have under your keel as you made your way out?

5 meters beneath the keel most of the way out...

it's an experience, especially at night... i tried to use the map as little as possible, relying on the lighthouses for directional fixes...

once we cleared the estuary, i headed west and soon the bottom started opening... and as it got lighter, i lowered the snorkel, went on batteries and went as deep as i could...

... just like a nuclear sub

Sonar coating don't come to later.

just be thankful that you have the snorkel for now, my last couple of missions off the US coast and caribbean were absolute HELL without it.

Its gets even harder though, make sure you keep a renown reserve ready for when the sonar coating comes. I had a bad patrol the mission before it was offered, then had to return to port 3 of 4 times without getting past spain for repairs from the constant air attacks. Destroyed the snorkel, attack/observation, radar, radar warning, and radio every time.

The only mission I managed to make it out, i still had a destroyed snrokel (stuck upright but functional), and lost radar.

Interesting. I'm going to have to try that when i return from my current patrol. Once i clear the harbor I cruise at periscope depth however.

If I remember correctly, the first XXIs go to 11th flotilla in Norway in ?April? of 1944. I'm not a hundred percent sure of the month, but it's definitely spring/summer 1944.
