Guitarist Dicky Betts passed away yesterday at the age of 80. Dickey co founded the Allman brothers with brothersDuane and Gregg Allman, both of whom have passed away as well.
Quote: Betts joins his brothers, Duane Allman, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks and Gregg Allman, as well as ABB crew, members Twiggs Lyndon, Joe Dan Petty, Red Dog, Kim Payne and Mike Callahan in that old Winnebago in the sky touring the world taking their music to all who will listen," they added. https://www.msn.com/en-us/music/news...ed/ar-AA1ngevF Dicky's Guitar playing in conjunction with that of Duane Allman provided a unique One-Two punch and gave the band it's high octane sound and helped to define the signature Southern Rock music sound. Betts played with the band from 1969 through 2000 Dicky, a Rock and Roll Hall of fame member wrote such hits as Jessica and Rambling man, Blue Sky,and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed as well as collaborating on so many more. Rest in Peace Dicky and thanks for stopping by and giving us some great music. Allman Brothers - Blue Sky |

Wore out a couple of copies of 'Live At The Fillmore East' back in the seventies. Dickey was every bit as good as Duane, who once said of Betts, "I'm the famous one. He's the good one."
RIP Dickey. ![]()

So, I saw the ABB at Merriweather Post Pavilion sometime in the '90s. For some reason, long after the show ended I was still in the venue. I was walking past the back lot and there was a tour bus, and Dickey was outside of it clearly talking to someone who was in said bus. I could have walked up to him, but didn't. I didn't want to be an ass.
