2022.1 Patch 11
Hydrophone detects propeller noise too far to intercept submerged. I surface and head towards the estimated location anyway. Nothing seen on visual scans. I submerge again and hydrophone picks up noise behind me in a location I passed through on the surface. This pattern seems to repeat. I'm wondering if the hydrophone is detecting distant noise due to a convergence zone, which is why they seem to be phantom contacts? |

Some of this may have to do with hydrophone contacts not being "exact" there is a large margin of error, especially in longer range contacts, so as you near the suspected area of the contact, more frequent sound checks become necessary.

HI JerseySeven,
You can see how far the hydrophone can hear on the map and on the Hydrophone Tooltop (side view). Of course, the position report is not exact and is only an estimate. Cheer Ruby |

I have noticed this as well. But the contacts could be in a very large area. It is a crapshoot if the captain decides to run the surface and then submerge for another listen. Sometimes a new contact is found on the second submerging that is closer and a very chance of finding.
