Default 9 hours 50 minutes

TMO 2.5 Update V2.0(release coming soon)
Subsim Donation Narwhal

20 February 1942 Area 4 off entrance to Sagami Wan(Tokyo Bay area)

Submerged at dawn for patrol. Last minute course change of 5000 ton merchant spoiled attack. Heavy air patrols and proximity to shore prevented surface chase.

At 1700 caughtlarge DD (Asashio Class) heading for Tokyo Bay at high speed, decided to attack as luck provided ideal set up. Closed to 1000 yards and fired three MK 14 torpedoes on ideal track.

One prematurely exploded twenty seconds after launch, which apparently alerted the DD, the second torpedo appeared it would hit, but wake ran below target just aft of amidships, likely deep runner.

Third torpedo missed just ahead of the bow perhaps by 20 feet or less as DD expertly maneuvered. DD then made a high speed turn, with one bow torpedo left in tube four, fired a "down the throat" shot from 600 yards and ordered depth of 200 feet. A large torpedo explosion was heard as passed 85 feet, but believe was premature explosion, not a hit.

DD roared above, dropping four depth charges.

After a couple hours evading, DD seemed to have lost exact position. I had to leave but did not want to shut down sim or save underwater due to problems, so left Narwhal running silent at 85 RPM at 300 feet.

I returned home a little while ago, 9 hours and 50 minutes since I left this morning. DD is still within a 1000 yards hunting. Periodically stopping and going. Will listen a while, then ping, contact us make a run.

During one run, a depth charge bounced off the deck "new clang effect for when depth charge contacts the hull, borrow from Traveller mod, incorporated into EAX , thanks to vickers03) and exploded 15 seconds later, causing some moderate damage.

Currently at 315 ft, easing a long, nursing battery power , pushing 11 hours under attack now. Narwhal must be a noisy boat lol

*UPDATE* After 11 1/2 hours , lost contact with the DD. Continued until night fall, surfaced and departed the area.

Whoooaaahhhh... but, then... to be expected... as I seem to recall reading of some subs, undergoing being hunted for quite some time... before the destroyer or escort, ran out of depth charges & left... thinking they damaged it enough that then left... thinking it'd succumb to those damages & be destroyed... (a dangerous assumption) knowing some managed to survive... while others... did implode (or taken so much damage to the tanks... so as to not be able to make the surface or any other myriad number of reasons) & not return back to base.

Be sure not to have air conditioning, refrigeration on; nor use the icecream maker! https://books.google.com/books?id=fJ...l%20class%20bo

Yes in real life at times, but not so common in the sim. Typical counterattack is about 3-5 hours I have found, some shorter, some longer, depends on multiple factors. I've had a few when they last this long, but its rare and was surprised by this one lol. I was also surprised, with leaving it unattended for so long, was still alive. I expected to come home to a post death screen lol. In older versions of TMO its one of the things that helped TMO AI gain their reputation, is the persistent hunting. Most Japanese did not persist and hunt the way the Allied ASW vessels did, just was not in their doctrine, for most of the war.

lol if only we have control over all that, hitting the silent running button supposedly does this, well it does, ive tested enough to see how things work under dc attack without it running, sub makes a lot of noise.

I believe the donation Narwhal may have a louded sound signature than say the Gato, which is fine, because it was a older, louded, slower boat.

Thanks for the link
