U-boats get so much love, not just silent hunter but plenty of titles like U-Boat, Wolfpack, U-Boat Commander (upcoming) and others i'm probably forgetting. Is SH4 and continued modding our only hope for Pacific sub-simming?

![]() As for SH4 that is it in a nut shell...there is a wide selection of different mod sets out there for it, to enhance the look, feel of the sim... take a look through the SH4 threads section... they are there. As for 5... this, thus far, is strictly Uboat warfare... just decked out more & giving the Kaleun, the ability to freely roam about & interact with the crew... well... that was the basis for its release, at any rate. It took modders, to make this SH offset, not a dumpster fire as it was on release... &... unless Ubi releases its darth vader death grip on the rights to the SH lineage, doubt that we will see any further Sub sims of any kind released... pertaining to WW2... unless some other game outfit takes on the mantle & delivers... or an indie outfit does so. ![]() M. I would say...yes, at some point. Thing is, unless someone does it the right way, which UBI cannot be trusted to do. They even can not be trusted with U boat sims i.e. SH 5...they always released rushed, buggy, historically inaccurate games instead of simulations now. We were lucky they patched up SH 4 to 1.5 but needed a few more patches. MODs have saved SH 4 and 5, likely 3 as well. Quite sad, that a company with resources could not be bothered, but the community have made things much better. I would almost rather them not make one, let SH 4 remain the standard a while, with the great mods.
Hopefully another developer will build a real pacific submarine simulation someday without taking shortcuts, without the glaring historical inaccuracies etc. Imagine a real pacific sub sim in VR lol. I am sure, at some point, it is coming. |

I'd like to not only see a new WW2 Fleetboat sim but I would really love to see a surface combat sim set the pacific.
Like something really cool could be along the lines of that Destroyer game that is being worked on but you have to fight off Japanese carrier planes and submarines or take part in the battles around Guadalcanal. EDIT: Honestly I would like to see ANY surface combat sim along the lines of Silent Hunter.

Uhhh, are you aware of pretty much the only game ever made that fits that criteria, Destroyer Command? Because from the way you wrote this it sounds like you don't. I'll admit...it's over 20 years old and pretty dated. It can run kind of weird. The campaign is more primitive than something like SH4, you don't *truly* have free roam and the files are structured oddly. The campaign is kinda like a whole nother game with a different .exe. it's weird. But especially with mods, it's the only thing that can really give you a surface warfare encounter. Planes, ships, subs, it has em all. Landing craft, oilers, you name it. You can use any destroyers from Clemsons on up. You can sail with capital ships or just yourself, or up to seven other destroyers you can work with, a full squadron in total. You can take command of them as needed, transfer your flag, etc. It really is unique and for it's age it's pretty cool. |
