Default Tour de France organisers withdraw lawsuit against spectator who caused mass crash

Tour de France organisers withdraw lawsuit against spectator who caused mass crash

Big mistake, the organization and individuals that were in the crash should prosecute this idiot.

Quote:
Race deputy director Pierre-Yves Thouault stated after the stage that ASO would sue the woman, saying, "We are suing this woman who behaved so badly. We are doing this so that the tiny minority of people who do this don't spoil the show for everyone."

However, Reuters reported ahead of Thursday's stage 6 that ASO will not take legal action against the 30-year-old woman.

She faces charges of 'involuntarily causing injury' and a €1,500 fine for her role in causing the crash, which saw DSM rider Jasha Sütterlin abandon the race with a hand injury and Movistar's Marc Soler leave the race later on after suffering fractures to both elbows and a wrist. Eight other riders were seen by the race doctor and numerous others suffered minor injuries.

Idiot.

^Load of rubbish.
It's not the spectators fault it's the organisers who are to blame, they let this happen all over the route, they're practically inviting such incidents to happen. Keep the spectators away from the riders and there won't be any crashes, excepting any accidents the riders cause themselves, it's not bleeding rocket science.

no gif

It's morons watching chemically-enhanced morons ride bicycles. They deserve each other. I mean, the bunch get taken out because the first guy can't ride through a piece of cardboard? My 12 year old can ride a bike better than that...

Just like morons who watch other morons kick a ball into a giant fishing net where a 1-1 tie game draws the drooling morons to cheer.

No thanks.

In this case, it certainly was a spectator who caused this.

The organizers should keep the spectators out of the route but there will always be some stupid who will ignore the rules.

True that

I'd have to say mission accomplished.

It is only a weak impression of what is going on during the races, Paris-Roubaix, the Tour, and the Giro d'Italia..
You cannot imagine those races without people standing close to the track cheering or cursing.

If you ever took part in a race, and be it a modest one, you know what happens, and why. One of the best and hard books about personal experience of suffering and passion is Tim Krabbé's "The Runner". The first sentence goes like this:
"I am arriving at the village where the race starts to assemble my bicycle, some hundred bystanders and critics, the emptiness of their lives shock me." and "..in life you help someone who stumbles and is down, in the races you murder him".

Thanks for that, Kai, I will check that book out. Do you mean, The Rider" ?

That whole race and culture baffles me. Sure, it is interesting but it seems like people blow its importance out of any realistic proportions.

I watched the Lance Armstrong docu last night, "Stop at Nothing". Crazy.

That was a great read, the whole book took place through a race. Krabbe is a really good writer, and a chess master as well. Ten centimeters....

Thanks.

Yes, bad translation by me (Dutch "De Renner" (The Rider) was translated to "Das Rennen" (The race) in german, and i got it all wrong. I also thought it was a great read, all are somehow crazy, obsessed, and driven ... Battoowoo Greekgreek. I also read it in 2 or 3 days. Glad you liked it

edit: good link, thanks

If anyone really attacked now, I wouldn’t be able to follow. Can they tell that by looking at me? I’m too exhausted to hide my exhaustion.
