I found this story and I thought it might be of interest to those who might still be using older cell phones on the AT&T network; in a nutshell, AT7T is ditching the 3G part of its network to give more attention to the new 5G standard, so if anyone is clinging to an older phone hosted on the AT&T network, after February 2022, they won't work anymore; so, if you know anyone wh might be affected and is not now aware of the change, you might want to pass on the info...
Unless your phone is on this list, it’ll stop working when AT&T shuts down its old network -- https://bgr.com/tech/att-3g-network-...-work-5928268/ ...this is a link to the T&T site for verifying if a phone will be affected by the network change... https://www.att.com/support/article/wireless/KM1324171/ I wonder how long it will take fo the other phone companies to follow suit and dump their own 3G support? Given that such a wholesale deletion of a segment of their network not only saves them the costs of network support, they also can look forward to a respectable increase in the sales of new replacement phones and accessories, something that will not be lost on the other phone companies... ...and, if they see a sizable enough windfall, might it not hasten the extinction of 4G, a much larger potential souce of new sales...?... <O>

But if there's money in it it must be right ![]() Hardware and software companies do the same: "The lifecycle of the product you bought [sic!] from us has expired. To ensure our support and give you the best possible experience throw your expensive stuff in the bin and buy it again from us." With all the new bugs, shortcomings and less productivity. Printers stop working after x pages by an internal counter, car electronics fail and all that.. Quote:
What will those people do with their smartphones when they cut off 4G? I somehow doubt they will go back to a life without those .. ![]()
