Heyo folks, looking for some help here.
Just got myself a new PC and headset, and both have been working fine until today. For whatever reason, my mic is picking up more background noise rather than my voice, which is coming in faint and nearly unreadable. I've tried resetting to defaults and have gone as far to reset the computer to factory settings, to no avail. The mic itself is fine, as I tested it on my old laptop and it works beautifully. I figure since many of us spend our time around a computer, someone might know a good fix. Thank you in advance.

It has, hasn't it?
I just recently got back from deployment, so that's the primary reason. Secondary is that SH3 is broken for me, and I think I need to reinstall, but don't have the disk (it's back home). I'll try and drop by soon. On holiday leave right now, so I've a lot of time to myself.

Moin,
if the microphone, cable and plug is fine (sure? because this indeed sounds like a hardware/connection problem), have you checked the device manager for red or yellow exclamation marks? How does the socket at the rear of the PC look like, sometimes there can be dust which becomes compressed over time. Then check the Audio manager of the audio card or built-in sound chip (mostly Realtek these days). If it is a laptop there is sometimes a button to cut off the mic for direct input. Sorry if you tried all this. Good luck ![]()
