Hi everyone,
As an exercise in learning how to use the DW editor, I created a mission inspired by the HMS Conqueror's attack on the ARA General Belgrano at the start of the Falklands War. Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w597vmdevv...grano.zip?dl=1 (RA mod v1.50+ required) I did a little bit of research to figure out the position, speed, and formation of the Argentine Task Group, as well as the weather conditions at the start of the attack— so that should all be relatively accurate (I think). However, the RA mod doesn't simulate a controllable Churchill-class submarine, so I substituted the American Skipjack-class to provide the most interesting challenge for the player. If you try it, let me know what you think! Open to suggestions for improvement. Last edited by musurca; 08-16-20 at 09:50 PM. |

![]() first suggestion, before launching this scenario: you can use ingame sounds - no need to add .wav for "Mission can not be completed report for debriefing." Below list of common voices: Quote:

![]() Ok, mission completed, thank you ![]() Unfortunatelly i was detected quite fast, so taking photo was little complicated. I had to do this under ASROC attack ![]() Bug: - sinking Belgrano didn't completed critical goal trigger ![]() My suggestions: 1. Skipjack is little too obsolete to this role. But its hard to find good substitute in RA. In my opinion best would be Rubis 2. Sea State 4 is too high. On historical pictures waves werent so high. 3. Iowa is too big warship for Belgrano role. I suggest De Ruyter (Chilean navy) 4. Because Kill trigger didn't completed (when i sunk Iowa) all rest events didn't happened (i saw it in mission editor after game) 5. After start player should be informed to recive radio message. In my game i recived message after taking photo 6. Trigger #2 Report contact was completed without reciving message. So when i checked it in mission status, i thought i can sink Belgrano (new goal appeared) After sinking Belgrano i was waiting for new orders but goal wasn't complete. So i just for fun killed 2 Gearing class Btw RA 1.50 should be released soon. Crazy Ivan will add few "old" US ships: ![]() maybe this ships will better fit to this mission. Overal mission is quite good for playing. I've spend good time in this scenario. Im waiting for improved version. ![]() P.S. sorry for my aggresive style of playing - but its from MP sessions where players havent time for pretending whole in water. "kill or be killed" ![]() |

Ha! That video was amazing—I learned a lot from watching your "kamikaze photography" techniques! And it helped me find a number of bugs, so thanks for the time you put into it. Your suggestions were also invaluable and I implemented most of them.
I've uploaded a new version (linked above as before) with the following changes: * Now requires RA mod v1.50+ * Initial ROE clarified * Objectives clarified to make it more obvious as to where/when you should stream the radio antenna after taking the picture * Kill trigger fixed (wasn't firing under certain conditions) * Iowa-class changed to De Ruyter-class * Gearing-class changed to Forrest Sherman-class (much more accurate— no ASROCs!) * Sea State decreased to 3 * Argentine ASW air cover fixed I kept the Skipjack—with the ASROCs removed, the challenge level became much more manageable, particularly if you use the Conqueror's historical tactics of chasing the convoy instead of leading it. It's a tough call and the Rubis was a good idea, but the Exocet SSMs make the mission too easy, I think. (It's too bad you can't set up historical weapon loadouts in the Mission Editor.) |

Reason to change Skipjack was ASROC weapon on Gearing class. Now Skipjack is ok.
Option for not using exocets or UUM-44 is just forbiden it in description. You can make attached "approach trigger" with detection exocet/UUM-44 around player submarine with "remove attached platform" at end (if someone violate this rule) Btw exocet has small warhead - i doubt 4 missiles can sink Iowa class. But i agree it wouldn't fit to this more or less but still historical scenario. Chasing attack with mk37 could be difficult because enemy ships after torpedo detection can increase speed above max speed of this torpedo ![]() Biggest problem for Skipjack is very low max speed for LF sonar. Its only 4 knots - too low to track enemy group. Skipjack was designed for different doctrine - where high speed determined tactic. Churchill class was able to track enemy group for very long time. My aggresive tactic was forced by Skipjack weaknes: - unable to track and follow battle group - slow and short range torpedoes So i had to use my only advantage: high speed Because after detection i had to force enemy to launch all ASROCs and then go closer to Belgrano. With Rubis game wouldn't look so comic ![]() Overall Skipjack is still good choice for this mission. Task will be more challenging and Forrest-Sherman won't launch ASROCs. I will play your updated scenario soon (maybe today) |

Incredible! That was a great run. And I see you launched torpedoes at the Belgrano at 15:53— which is only 4 minutes before the Conqueror's historical launch time (15:57).
