How do you award medals to crewmembers

Hi, I know you are supposed to click on a plus icon at the crewmember's portrait, but my question is when does the icon appear? Do you or the crewmember have to have a certain rank, or how does it work?

It’s based on their “experience” if you will. Tonnage I think gives them awards.

Thanks for the reply! I was also wondering if there are any specific criteria to be awarded medals yourself? Is it also based on tonnage?

It is, but the game awards system is broke and you do not get the awards at the appropriate times.

KDS commander comes with TWoS and gives the appropriate medals!
