Icon9 My save files just broke. Torpedoes are gone?!

I had just raided a task force and sunk 50k+ worth of warships. When leaving the scene I decided to surface a bit too soon and was hit by a destroyer hiding in my blind-spot. No biggie but I decided to reload a save.

I reloaded the latest save which crashed the game.
I tired the one before that. It crashed.
The one before that (an hour or so) is just prior to the attack but something has happened to it. My torpedoes are gone. On the map it shows the kills from the other saves but the ships are still very much alive.

The save before that is 7 hours past. No thanks.

Is there a way to add torps to your ships via a save file or something. Or maybe move my ship on the first save file. It probably crashes due to damaged ships nearby. I don't mind doing the attack again but I'm done with this game if I have to replay those 7 hours.

auto saves or manual saves are crashing ?

I have read here that auto saves can be if'y at best..

I manual save every few days game time and before every attack and after.
(I get campaign troubles notice some times on saves I just reload a few times until it works)

If it was me I would try to reload the saves a few times..going out of game or at least to Main menu each try...try the Save more then once.

From a new guy I can tell you it is a pain sometimes but I like this TWO's a lot.
Doing baby steps...slowly working my way up to all manual targeting.(still can not recognize/I.D. ships to save my life. but working on it)

The autosave works. So does one of my manual saves. They are only minutes between these two. They're both just before the attack. Neither of the saves after the attack will load.
I made a new manual save (from the one before the attack) which fixed the "kill" icons on the map but my topedoes are still gone.

Saving games in SH5 can get a nuisance...There are so many things to remember about what not to do...I don't want to harass you with over-information, so I'll be short:

Essentially (and not complete):

Don't save when units are nearby, when planes are nearby;
don't use autosaves;
do always save in a separate slot (you can erase them later);

That's pretty it, and if additionally you always save in bunker you are safe if things go wrong, the more saves you have, the less you'll have to replay.

Now, if despite of all that you get a corrupt save, there is only 1 workaround I know about:
------------------
IF YOU GET A CORRUPTED SAVEGAME...
Sometimes you can rescue the save by deleting the file "Special.txt" from your savegame folder (...Documents\SH5\data\cfg\SaveGames\0000000*). Reload the save and pray...
------------------

I hope this last one will get you out of trouble.

Cheers,
XS

Thanks man. I'll try that. I've been keeping my manual saves to only 4 just to not clutter the menu. Didn't know you could delete them. I guess I'll save a lot more from now on.

I did realize that it's not *that* bad. Nothing's stopping me from just leaving the task force alone after all. So I guess I'll just play it on from there. Sad to have lost all that tonage but oh well. It's still early in the war.
