I too am just getting started learning Silent Hunter and was confused when I noticed the Travel Mode icon at the top of the screen.
Next to the Travel Mode icon are these Time compression icons that one can enable or disable. Yellow Enable It appears Travel Mode has some unknown interaction with Time Compression Is this the case? “Enable TC1 on any message box” “Enable TCx on message box messages” “Enable TC1 on radio message recv’d” “Disable TC1 when useful contact report recv’d" |

A Warm Welcome To The Subsim Community > MorseCode
SH3 – 4 - 5 Tutorials > Downloads > Other Useful Information > See Links in My Signature Below Think of "Travel Mode" as an override button which will stop your TC reverting back in certain situations. To see how the default system from your game is setup go to C:\Document\SH5\data\cfg\cfg main Here you will see the TC settings. Anywhere you see a comma "," after the default setting will change the default setting when the Travel Mode icon is pressed. When used with the "Real Navigation" mod great care should be used especially where coast and shallow waters are present.

Thanks for getting me up to speed on where the config file for Travel Mode is. It helps
to take a look at these cfg files to see what's going on. I noticed I have only LandProximity=1,64 in my settings file. So getting into shallow water would NOT trip a lowering of Time Compression. Nothing else has a comma I also noticed in my playersettings.cfg file listed my Unit Name=U-53. I wonder if this ID is in other cfg files so one can't change it. What cfg file would confirm I'm doing the very first assignment ??? Coastal Waters - Baltic Operations is where I've started, the beginning I just sunk the Sub in the Baltic Operations, it would be cool to see the Tonnage and Renown appearing in a cfg file. What file name would these appear in? I found the most recent cfg in SH5 / data / Users / *EachCaptain* Folder / Campaign *Date* /CampaignProgress.cfg CampaignProgree.cfg shows.... [CampaignProgress] IsCompleted=false CampaignNameId=TotalGermany39 ResupplyAvailable=true MissionToStart=0 Profile.cfg shows....
