Default Third runway at Heathrow cleared for takeoff by ministers

At long last an initial decision has been taken and the consultation, planning, then no doubt the legal objections can commence.

A couple of facts I learned today was 1) Heathrow is the busiest two-runway airport in the world (other airports have three or four, Schiphol actually has six) and 2) Gatwick is the busiest one-runway runway in the world (actually has two but one is never used unless the first runway is put out of commission for repairs etc.).

Yeah and currently 31% of UK exports go via Heathrow.

Yes sir. We fly cargo into Heathrow daily. Some deliver locally. Others pass on through to points beyond.

Default Expanded Heathrow’s value to rest of UK is hazy

Quote:
LONDON (Reuters - An expanded Heathrow’s value to the rest of the UK is hazy. Europe’s busiest airport looks set to build a 14 billion pound runway after getting the thumbs-ups from cabinet ministers on Tuesday. Plans to defuse some of the scheme’s more controversial points look harder to fulfil.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-b...-idUSKCN1J224U

A good idea to expand as there is a strong need.

Too little to late, they have been pushing for this since around the 1970's. The time its comes on line the pressure for another runway will start, better start now campaigning.

Too little too late? ^ Want to trade Heathrow for BER Schönefeld...? You will learn about a whole new dimension in misplanning and mismanagement. Conmpared to the planning disaster at Berlin Airport, any other big construction project in Europe facing some problems looks like peanuts only.

That BER will be dismantled completely and rebuild from scratch now looks like a realistic scenario.

Precisely, on all counts
