Default Any fans of the movie Rollerball here? Not the crappy 2002 remake.

Almost interesting trivia.

The 1975 movie Rollerball was supposed to take place in the near future. That future was, in fact, 2018.

But we still have Roller Derby and that's good enough.

Yep. I thought it was great. I had the chance to read the Novella around the same time, and the movie was surprisingly faithful. It was also my introduction to John Houseman's acting. Thanks for bringing back the memory.

I recall the movie (late 70s or early 80s, if I am not mistaken?), I was remembered of it, in a distant way and by a more abstract linking, when getting into touch with the Hunger Games movies and books (which I found to be mindblowingly good, both, cant say which was better, book or film).

Many good Science Fiction works seem to have dystopic social construction as a precondition for their narration.

I remember this movie. James Caan as Johnathan E and the " corporations " trying to retire him. I thought it was a scary look at sports sponsored by corporate America.

I remember it, but I never watched it. I reckon the reason for not watching was I associated it with Roller Derby of which I had no interest in at all and still don't.
